So assuming casual gameplay style, a dedicated fleet of javelis cruisers (or other high pierce ships) would counter a mono capital ship fleet. The philosophy of many changes in Sins 2, is to remove hard caps from the player, and make the game flow in such a way, which will make you want to build more than just 1 type of ship. Hey, each faction plays very different, so it would help to know what faction are you playing and what's the faction of your opponent. Meanwhile, I can provide following advice: 1) Expand as fast as you can, and build economy, while minimizing fleet investment, until you meet your enemy. Hey, what do you mean, that the beams do not work? If you are talking, that a starbase does not immediately have the beams, that is because you have to manually upgrade the starbase, as in sins2, it is not a default weapon.
