Yes, but in SINs universe it equates to the dead area around a planet where the FTL drive will not work (do so some techobabble about gravity) The thing that does not make much sense here is the star’s influence. Using the same rule for the star chances are that the inner planets would be in the star’s dead zone and the larger planets may also overlap depending on position/mass. It would make much more sense if each jump point had to be at a LaGrange point. But this is there fiction and

Yes, the defense is a bit messed up. But this game also forces some type of play. The gravity well is rather small, Ships are huge and have fair range. You can jump away at the edge of the gravitational field but normally ships enter at the same place. And the lack of real 3d. Given that, static defenses are ok, since there IS a bottle neck, unfortunately you can’t place weapons AT the bottle neck?! So static defenses are NOT ok now . . Problems with the current system start here.

Well, not exactly . . All you need is the other ships vector which is already generated by the engine. The greater the deflection and speed (this could be simple, 2 numbers, top speed of fast or show ship no since in getting the real numbers since these ships always travel at top speed and accelerate to top speed quickly and we really have only 2 classes - though fighers are different case). Now if you want more . . factor in your distance and speed . . again precision is not needed. A

Ion canon . . . Depending on how you define it . . a ion gun is a particle gun that happens to fire a charged beam . . Unfortunately such a “beam” would be EASALLY defended ageist and quite hard to aim because of its charge. (well aiming would be very easy, not having it bend all over, disperse and sill hit what you are aiming at . . . ) Any magnetic field would bend it regardless of strength of the be

Really only one simple trig equation, in witch all you are looking for is lead angle . . this has to be one only so often at this rather slow speed of ship movement - no need for constant updates, does not have to be exact and needs to be only done once per Group of ships not single ships if they all stick together (fighters may need there own . . or not because they move so fast) . . we are looking to get them into a combat envelop and once in no need to lead anymore. A real no brainier to

"A Realistic universe would look amazing, but it'd eat resources and as the devs have stated, they'd rather have fun than realism," This does not follow . . .I have played games with "realistically" Scaled and some with variuos hybrids of “realistic” and "manageable" (read SLIGHTLY foreshortened for quick game play) 10+ years ago! This is NOT a computer resource problem at all. If the tactical part of the game turns into just another RTS but with “space as water” and “Space ships

I have been Lurking, (a long time stardock user) trying to figure whether or not to join in on the Beta (I am a QA eng and sometimes QA testing at home is too much like work other times not so bad – so I am still making up my mind) I have Played/Demo/QA’ed most games in a similar genre to this. MOO to Homeworld to SotS etc . . . I have only viewed the Screen shots and vids and have these comments.

Again, there should be a Max on total bonuses at the start this would stop all problems with people stacking them and going crazy adding them in one catagory. Also The MOO2 example does not really apply here becouse that changed a basic "rule" of playing, ie "No farmers" that was the big problem there, in GalCiv we are only talking bonuses not rule changes so they are much easyer to control. IE a Max and Min cap . .

Having made, and modified RPGs for over 20 years it is always a struggle to keep flexibility while discouraging people trying to take advantage of it. Here is some general thoughts on the subject. One thing that can be done is make it a matter of diminishing returns or even more so (this is already done to some extent). Go too far up or down is “inefficient” and VERY costly for both the advantages and disadvantages. Also the amounts needed to raise a bonus are figured by the TOTAL bonus a

It is said often that the typical person in the US is very insolated from the rest of the world and is only interested in there own lives. . Interesting . . Since I have had dealings with many people from all over the world, it seems MOST people Globally end up very isolated from the rest of the world for various reasons. The majority honestly don’t care what happens far away if it does not affect them. (Note. “far away” varies greatly on the person/ from down the road to the next country)

- David Ballantyne So a "rabid fanboy" there = "rabid fanboy" here . . . Hardly worth saying really. . . for they are by definition "rabid fanboys". The real and noticeable difference IS how many and how noisy they are . . Also, how people handle them “I took the high ground and merely mocked them a tad” -Fist of John. :) And simply I can’t see how anyone can compare the two forums and put MooIII one ahead in any category. :CONGRAT:

Darkrenown / David Ballantyne – I once again have to disagree with you . . . Yes there are still a few here that are lest then tactful even mean but compared to the MooIII forum they are rare in the extreme. People in general here are nice even when disagreeing . . The moderators are nice, fair and responsive, the entire forum has a overwhelming feeling constructiveness and accomplishment and you can’t say that about the MooIII forum. I still think the forums are reflective of the game

Tactical combat? Depends on the game’s goal. If it is to be a Empire game then Tactical anything (from the leaders point of view) is really unrealistic micromanaging (if you where a hive mind I would have no problems with this) Though the time and scale problems are still there (macro managing a Empire over months or years at a turn and then micromanaging a comparatively small tactical fleet battle over a coerce of hours or a day?) But if we are to have strategic and abstracted battles

Being a SQA engineer and dealing with software quality, user interfaces, Good and bad features, testy programmers, time and budget problems as a way of life . . I understand the problems that MooIII went through. . Having said that and having been on their forums for >2 years and interacting with the regulars and developers . .I have a good perspective on the game, its development, the developers themselves and the forum. And to say it a nicely as possible . . almost every aspect of and arou

The Original post and it's very nice analogy to the MooIII fiasco . . . Was some great humor . . And amazing accurate too . . Anyone getting mad over it must have other issues . . Deleting the Thread and giving the warning points just show that they are Very sensitive to there failure and the post was too close to the truth for there comfort. It is really funny watching small minded people . . . :)

No, I have seen this too they want ridiculous prices even when you are friends and you are also a much better trader . . . It is really annoying and seems to have just happened recently with a ”fix”.

But, what about strait $$? they are so “strict” they wont even make a profit for themselves :notsure: . I really think that is messed up. Also, I think the bonuses should make a real difference here. A novice trading race should get the “short end” when dealing with a skilled or expert race. . There also should be some ambiguity on what IS a good deal. . Yellow words during trade should means they MAY go for it rather then they will NOT. Possibly two AI checks . . One, “is it a good deal

13 Replies 354 Views

Yes, you have to have a Chance to make a good deal, especially if you have the skill AND they are receptive. I also tried to give them $100 for $90-$99 in return (0 months, ie. no differences in time and all normal AIs). And they where neutral or higher to me . . no dice! . . .What is up with that? I can’t even give them a profit? If a person gave me 10+% more money just for the act of it changing hands and I did NOT go for it I would be a called an idiot. There is something wrong here . .<b

I have had the same problem in this build . . the AI will not even go one to one for techs of the same level and even with being frendly and I with massive trade advatage. . . Last version this worked fine and a good way for "friends" to share vs a greater evil :)

E-Tigger - Dyson sphere would just be shown as a massive (I hate to say, but we don't want to change the game much) "planet" with the star, you might even change the star graphic a touch (like metal :D ) It would seem easy to mod no drastic changes to make. Asharak - the point is that 3/4 the planets at the beginning are not useable and that lowers to ~2/3 later. Planet rating 1-10 are simply not used unless a rare event happens or very end game (and then you don't care) Simp
