I did not even realize anyone was trying to do an x-com or syndicate type clone. IMHO both Microprose (X-COM) and Bullfrog (Syndicate) are long gone .. along with ORIGINS (strike commander, wing commander, privateer, the real ultima's and Britannia games), Sierra, and several other great companies.. and I accepted that that wonderful era was over a long time ago. Maybe it was youthful remembranc

If you need more logs please ask. This happens on all three of the boxes I play beta 4 on (2 laptops and a desktop).
Yeah, I have had the same problem since the beginning of my game. It looks like auto_resolve only works with sword play and not magic. I found out that even with a sword if I do auto_resolve it is pretty much a tossup if I will win unless the guy is really weak. Yet, my same guy can use magic and break down swarms of armies with the current magic bugs For example.. confusion takes their attack to negative (-) levels and then they can't fight
I came across a similar scenario when I joined my first .90 game. I recruited the first NPC a nd then walked next to the 2 nd NPC to attempt a recruit. I accidentally hit the wrong mouse button a nd instantly kill him. In the last beta it seemed like we needed to specifically hit the attack icon to attack NPCs a nd this appears to have changed. I guess it is possible that I am in
I still think they will deliver tonight. Programmers tend to work unusual hours.
That is usually because we want things fixed the way "we" want it and refuse to give up. Not so sure that this is a good thing at this point of the night though.. Time for bed guys!! Plenty of time to fix stuff later..
If BP were involved, the source code would've leaked out by now
Not so sure.. they have kept a really good lid on the huge 15-20 miles long by 10 feet high methane gas bubble that could explode and cause catastrophic damage ~200 feet inland.. http://embedr.com/playlist/bp-gas-bubble-20-miles-long-could-cause-tsunami ... plu
wow.. that is pretty pathetic on my part. Sorry about that! Perhaps a soverign shouldn't be allowed to initiate an attack if they do not have an attack rating? The previous / original case was not related to 0 attack since I was a fighting machine. However, that problem was fixed (xml change?) once I tried it after you requested the combat logs. Thank you again!
These forum posting crash almost as much as the game... Sorry.. this is short since I lost my last posting. Dropbox of error log and screenshots - https://www.dropbox.com/home/Elemental#/AttackBug:::13577357 Some interesting points. 1. Medium map is not medium (navigated in < 50 turns of manual clicking/walking in a casual fashion)</sp
Kryo, Sorry about the delay, but I have been trying to reproduce the issue. Yesterday I was able to reproduce the issue on two different systems and across multiple attacks (vs monsters). Loads and retries all result in the same results - my soverign does not attack at all and the battle continues until the monster is able to get off enough hits to defeat me. I will upload the debug.err files later today to my dropbox account and update the posting. How
Slow here as well... maybe the monster respawn and grouping functions are taking up too much resources / polling constantly? It somewhat makes sense since those activities are always on. By the way.. when I could not, reasonblity, play a medium map I moved to small and it runs smoother.. but still so-so. System is a little dated, but should be more than adequate considering I threw frame rates down to 1/4 on the slider.. and lowered a bunch of things including down to 16
I would like to see an explanation as to why you apparently can't talk to some NPC's (the dialogue balloon is crossed out).
I noticed this function as well. It seems if you do not have enough money to buy their services you cannot talk to them. I am indifferent on the solution, but it took some getting used to.
Still supppper slow on my gateway nx860xl laptop (c2d 7400, nv7900gs, 2gb, 320gb 7.5k, w7 and/or vista HD(0805 at least)). It is strange since it worked pretty well when I first started playing.. maybe an xml change / tweak? It seems like the nvidia 7900 cards are still an issue as well so maybe it is related.
Thanks guys! Downloaded fine - can't wait to get a new game started!! :)
Kryo, It seems like the file was dxgkrnl.sys --> nvlddmkm.sys and considering the issues with my 7900gs video card (in the current build) this may be a subset of a known issue. Thank you for responding though!
Same issue here.. I built 1 temple first and came back to see that the temple was still listed in my choices. I then tried creating another and noticed that it was not gone from my building choices (like normal). So, I tried building and building and building and it allowed me to until I was out of resources.
It churns on my two systems as well, but I believe Frogboy mentioned that the beta has all debug settings maxed so that they can gather data. These settings will be turned off, or severely lowered, in the final release and the impact should not be as great. I noticed that on my laptop (core-2-duo T7200 - 2GB Ram, NV 7900GS 256 - 320gb 7200rpm) the game suddently slowed to a halt today similar to your computer. So, I am wondering if the new xml settings we are downloa
I just wanted to post to add to the number of users saying that you are doing a great job Frogboy! As others have already mentioned we really appreciate the effort (and love) you, and your team, are putting into the project. Nice piece of code.. I still hate pointers even though they are a necessary evil..
I am curious of this as well. Maybe we are choosing some settings that is putting them into a dormant mode? I have only played 2 games, to try out both fractions, a nd in both games I am seeing no AI challenges. No city attacks, no city building, a nd no NPC's roaming the map after the first 50-100 turns. I even added 2 more AI to the default choices of a Large map on the 2 nd game (not finished yet).</span
I finally went ahead and put the game in window mode (unchecked the FullScreen check box..) and I have not had ONE crash since. I was crashing the game every few turns if I did anything except for end the turn. Even then, it would sometimes crash at the research screen. I am pretty shocked that it made such a difference, but for others that are tired of reloading or having to manually kill the Elemental.exe (after the crash) you may want to try the suggestions to run
I agree that it should not work that way, but I was hoping that windowed mode would help you play in the mean time. It you do a quick google it looks like several applications battle lid closing if they utilize directx - including VLC. I did not see any real solutions, just that it appears to be happening to multiple users hanging monitors off of laptops. I'm guessing that you are cloning your desktop? You may want to make your external monitor the 2nd m
I see this all the time when I alt-tab to the desktop and come back. Others have suggested playing in window mode to temp overcome this defect/bug. Even though your computer is set to do nothing it is probably still turning off your monitor? This cases a Direct X mode change (pretty sure?).
I was fighting a troll that was much more powerful than me, so I figured let me save the same and try my luck with my Soverign. The fought the NPC and I died after nearly killing him first. I loaded the game up and retried the attack. The 2nd attempt I lost not a single HP and he was dead! I reloaded the game several times and the behavior was consistent (sometimes no damage sometimes death, but nothing inbetween). I have the saved game backed up
I get plenty of CTD's as well.. and this has lead me to what feels like 100's of restarts. I usually get CTD right after fighting a battle or zooming. However, with the load issue. I am always able to get the game loaded. I just need to do CTRL-ALT-DELETE --> task manager --> kill Elemental.exe. Then start it back up, listen to the cool Zelda (nintendo ver from 86) / Ultima III (commadore) music intro knockoff and then hit the load again.
Frogboy.. are you sure that the issue is related to multicore threading? If I use WinLauncherXP 2.0.5 Beta or another tool to start Elemental with only a single CPU Affinity it still crashes? Or, is the multicore pthreads (or equiv) still kicking off before checking if it is executing on a multicore system? I have tried waiting 10-15 seconds and even that does not always work with or without affinity tweaks.
Same crash here except that there is more memory allocated. Seems to happen after you explore the map since It did not happen early on when I started experimenting with Elemental. DebugMessage: Not all memory has been freed from memory system AStar. DebugMessage: 28080 bytes of memory still allocated.
