When it's time to inspect the map more closely i find it useful to hit 5 and zoom almost all the way to Icons - there they are, the crystals show up permanently with starbases built on them included.
What I've seen is that the icons stay on the map (inside the fog of war after they have been seen) UNTIL their status changes. Eg. Fly past an unoccupied crystal and it will remain seen until someone builds a starbase on it. Or, fly past a crystal with a starbase on it and th

I have a problem with locating Ascension Starbases on the map. My ships scout out the locations initially but the Ascension Crystals aren't permanent fixtures within fog of war on the map, unlike the other Resource Cystals which remain on the map once they have been scouted. I'm in the middle of a game where a race has grabbed a number of them, and even though I had originally located them, I now need to build a fleet of scout ships just to re-discover them again and destroy the starbases
Try running windowed mode. You can set the game to the same res as your desktop/monitor. The only thing this should effect is that alt-tabbing won't crash the game. You can even run it at normal res if you like without all that stretching.
Oh, I love the wide view on the rest of the game. It plays awesomely on wide screen so I wouldn't want to lose that aspect. After the game had crashed (problem 5) I reloaded it and the ship in problem 1 had disappeared.
I started playing TotA this morning and have noticed a few minor issues and one not so minor. 1. In the map I am playing there is an image of a ship in the southern corner decked out with heaps of lasers. The ship doesn't exist in game-space. 2. When scrolling through the starbases after double clicking on one, the forward arrow (>) gets stuck after the first of the starbases that was built. The back arrow works fine. The forward arrow works until it get back to the first starba
The planets that orbit our sun tend to have exponentially larger orbits. Lets take for example Earth, Mars and Jupiter. Earth is 1AU from the sun. Mars is 1.5AU and Jupiter is 5.2AU. Earth is always closer to Mars no matter what orbit scenario you create. For example, if Earth was on the opposite side of the sun from Mars but on the closest orbit to Jupiter, Mars would still be 1.7AU closer to Earth than Jupiter ((5.2 - 1) - (1 + 1.5)). The point is, it is probably better to model these
...It was the entire basis of my race selection, opening cap ship selection, research into hangers, my selection of fighters instead of bombers, etc.
Fighters are only good against bombers, while bombers are good against all other ships. If you had stocked bombers instead of fighters I think the results would have been different. Bombers seem to target planet attack ships before others.
Thanks for the replies. So the ships work on 'paper-scissors-rock' principle? I hadn't really noticed other than flak vs bombers and siege vs planets. Can you please give an example of what sort of fleet you would send against say a fleet of light frigates at a planet armed with defensive cannon (or any other example that would illustrate the principle)? @ Daishzen: I'm sorry but I didn't understand what you meant by the damage/fleet and health/fleet ratios and the impact t
I have only had the game for a couple of days and one aspect that is frustrating me is the roll of the different ship classes. I have experimented with mixtures of different ships in fleets but currently I now only build direct combat capital ships to send in to battles. They last a long time and can usually be withdrawn to be repaired while all the cruisers and frigates are destroyed. When I built special ships such as the robot cruiser to repair the fleet, these ships are destroyed f
Hi all, I have a Wacom Tablet attached to my computer and prefer to use the Wacom mouse. The only problem I have is that the mouse wheel doesn't scroll the map like a normal mouse. Does anyone know what settings I need to change on the Wacom tablet for this to work? Also, when I click the mouse wheel button (with the tablet mouse and also with a normal mouse) it shows my desktop. The game is still running - just minimised. I thought that clicking the middle button was to change
