I would add the ability to dispense beer. Preferably a dark beer. Maybe pizza too.

Incidentally, not a lot of people know about it, but there is an on topic video game about this. It wasn't terribly popular, most people never knew it existed, but it was pretty cool. It has the same name as many other video games, so its easy to get it confused w/these other games. It was called, simply, Evolution. It was made by the discovery channel. It was an RTS. It was hard. hehe. I still have the disk somewhere. Had some cool stuff that came w/the game too. -->[
Looking at Apple v. MS stock performances lately, MS is having troubles. Sales for macbooks (of which I own one) and ipods are way up, earnings greater than expected. MS, earnings are sadder than expected, how many of you own a zune?
Actually current studies show that seeing and acting out violance increases the chance of experiencing agressive feelings. Not to mention that with games becoming more and more realistic they are becoming training engines for anyone who ever wishes to know how to kill someone.
I'd like to see the studies, its been my experience most such studies are looking for a particular answer and aren't designed too well, and never look beyond the answer they are trying to find. I'l
I have an mp3 player that can pick up FM radio, so while I'm at work I listen to it. Today (yesterday for you guys, I work off hours) they had a physicist on who talked about what kinds of things in sci-fi are really possible. In part of it, he even discusses death stars. Given the GC2 interest around here, especially lately w/TA coming out and terror stars, I thought it was particularly interesting and timely. => Anyhow, here its, free to download from the site of the rad
I like Jedit: http://www.jedit.org/ you add only those features to it you want through its in-program updating process. for normal word processing though: http://www.openoffice.org/ both are free. openoffice includes a spreadsheet proggy (like excel) a database proggy (like access) and a powerpoint type thing too (haven't used that one).
Updated to SP1. There are 2 sets of games I've had problems w/in Vista. 1. the witcher. ON save it would crash. Otherwise worked perfectly, but couldn't save games. Tried all sorts of fixes. After SP1, works fine. (but it may also have been the new video drivers I updated to at the same time, so can't say for sure that MS gets the credit here). 2. Heroes of Might and Magic V. worked fine in Win2k. Vanilla HommV still works fine (I got the UK edition of that).
Stardock isn't doing anything wrong. They aren't creating an O/S that has trouble working w/other desktop proggies then charging for theirs, that'd be fishy. They are simply putting a price on something they spent money making. The market decides if they are right to do so or not. I bought object desktop and consider it worth it. Others haven't. That's good I think, for selfish reasons. The more people who don't buy it because they think its too expensive will help to bring the price down
I thought the game was: too short too easy (dying means nothing, in fact, it can be a good thing, it can be used to heal yourself up). The fact that it wears out its welcome before its over is true, but that's the fault of poor game design. It should be designed in such a way to keep its welcome, no matter how long it is. I don't pay 50 bucks for a single player FPS I can finish in one sitting (which I did). I want my money back.
I've been buying stardock games for a long time, I really like their method. I lost my original galciv disks long ago, for instance. I've had a billion computers since back then, and moved several times as well. No big deal though, I can just reinstall through SDC any time, no hassle. No weird stuff installed on my machine disabling nero (like STEAM does) regardless of how legitimate my use of NERO might be. Yes you can re-sell your copies, but the new user doesn't get the license w
My god, seeing it all together like that makes me want to pre-order it 5 more times. hehe. Gimme gimme gimme!
I don't mind ratings, but they should not be issued arbitrarily, behind closed doors, w/some secret process. They should be issued publicly, w/an objective process, and appealable. The game industry itself should play some role in it as well. lastly, it shouldn't effect who can buy the game, or you run into the situation you do w/movies where they deliberately gut the movie of interesting content, or deliberately choose a bland script, in order to keep it out of the 'R' rating, which
I think I like this scaling option best. It'd be good enough for me though if I could just set a minimum number of turns that techs take to be researched. So even if I have enough resources to get the tech in one turn, it'll still take X turns, whatever the player set X to. And maybe make X grow larger later in the game, i.e. make it definable in the xml on a per tech basis so someone could tailor it however they wanted.
I love playing the largest most drawn out games possible. => Dunno why, I just love it. Glad we get even bigger maps w/TA. Anyhow, to make the game more epic, I always turn off tech trading. You should still be able to get around it a little by buying and selling actual ships, and thus gettin' the benefits of the techs used to create them, but I don't mind that at all, and you can only get as many as you can buy or are available, and only from races willing to sell. Would li
jimmy10101 Its a deskscape from stardock's object desktop suite of proggy's. You can't tell from the pic but its animated and spins around, has a day/night cycle, pretty cool. Just looked in the dreams directory, its called "desktop earth.dream". Appearantly there are other earth dreams out there too nowadays as well on wincustomize.com, haven't tried any of the others though. Unfortunately, I have a problem a lot of people had recently, my first restart after updating deskc
ok, post #2. I've seen these other pics w/people using object bar and it inspired me to get more organized, so here is new desktop - un-messy. Keep in mind, everthing except the top bar is on autohide, so its usually out of sight.
Jagged Alliance series Silent Storm Best for the ps1 and now the psp - Final Fantasy Tactics (yes, its a TBS strategy game, squad based tactical combat). Also for the ps1 - Tactics Ogre, Vandal Hearts, and more I can't remember. Also for the psp - Jeanne d'arc, d&d tactics (haven't tried this one yet). For the ps2 - Disgea 1 and 2. If you like 'em, the same company has several others, also for the ps2 (of varying quality). Also - Suikoden Tactics.<
CivIV has one thing going for it that makes it my game of choice many a time. I mentioned this in another thread recently. The PitBoss. Run PitBoss.exe to check it out. Can run a low maintenance dedicated turn server for Play-By-Email games Ideal for PBEM goodness. I remember having to download the PitBoss separately for vanilla CivIV, because they came out w/it after the initial release, so if all you have is vanilla civIV you might have to download it. But it comes w/beyond th
One of these days stardock, when you make a TBS game w/MP capabilities, I would request you put some thought into PBEM, maybe even PBEM only. The softer side of MP. (I don't think its inherently 'softer', but those w/the patience to play a very long PBEM game are also those that I would think would have a smaller percentage of the screaming/rude/melodramatic amongst them.) Integrated into your new Impulse network, w/some civIV PitBoss type features (persistent game server players can '
If I get too much of one type of thing, I just make a folder for it and throw all the icons into there. So there's a game folder for most of my game icons, w/just the ones I'm playing a lot at the moment out on the desktop. All my utility icons, all into a folder. etc... I like OSX10 best. => Haven't tried the new one that just came out. Unfortunately, no one makes games for it, so I only use it on my laptop which is my utility machine (burning dvd's, word processing, portable needs, etc...). Plus, you can easily dual boot w/windows xp/vista, w/the free included 'boot camp' to run windows natively on the mac machine. My main rig, however, runs vista, because I'll use whatever OS I need to do play all the games I want to play. I get a computer to run
I don't use it anymore, but for completeness sake I'll mention the Avant Browser. I used it back in the day when I wanted IE compatibility, but firefox features. Its just a wraparound for IE, so you keep all your IE bookmarks, settings, compatibility, etc..., just get more features. http://www.avantbrowser.com
In no particular order: Nethack, currently, and its predecessors when they were contemporary The Witcher Morrowind Planescape Torment Fallout 1 and 2 Arcanum KoTOR 1 Total War series Myth 1 and 2 Master of Magic Age of Wonders 1 and AoW:SM Final Fantasy Tactics Master of Monsters (sega genesis) Battle for Wesnoth God of War 1 and 2 (ps2) and the psp release too<b

both good ideas, 1) hard cap (let player choose x, where x is the limit), 2) the stick (penalty for too many of one type, in cost or effectiveness or both, let player choose X where X is when the penalty begins to apply). X should perhaps be a percentage rather than a hard number, so that it auto-scales w/fleet size/map size. Another, third option would be the carrot: 3) combined arms bonuses. 3.5) or perhaps a d&d style 'favored enemy' choice in the tech tree (you get to pick 1 sp
