oh great, the joys of discussing social security. Reply By: Draginol ======================== In fact, if someone on the left wants to split hairs about honesty and not mentioning the payroll taxes then they should go the whole way: Demographically, most people in the top 5% of income earners are business owners. And those business owners not only get taxed more but have to pay for half the payroll taxes of their employees. In other words, far from making the liberal argume

by draginol: =========== Re GDP - point being, our taxes are still near historical highs. What I'm saying is that you are playing statistical games which I think is a big disengenous. Why not start arguing where taxes were a century ago? Or two centuries ago when in both cases they were basically nil. You cherry picked numbers that fit your argument. =========== i will try and respond to the other points later, but i want to tackle this one right away. well,
depends on the company or type of beta. there are some companies that put out almost finished betas since they know it will be widely downloaded. or a beta downloaded 100,000 times with no reports of smoking computers. i read of a penguin behavior where the first few penguins get pushed into the water by the sheer mass of penguins behind them. then the penguins wait and see if they get eaten to see if there are any predators in the water. that's how i prefer to try out betas: t
Reply By: Anthony R.: ============= I think the government should give each citizen an itemized list at tax time, they could fill out the boxes of all the programs they are willing to support and that will speak volume about what type of government taxation is acceptable to each individual. ... I also believe that the individual taxpayer should have the right to opt out of Social Security and invest that money in thier own personal account. ============= would this b
I was merrily scrolling through my Add/Remove programs list trying to free some hard drive space by deleting unused programs. I am a virtual packrat, hoarding programs "just in case", or "maybe one day I'll use it". Towards the end I see a program called Viewpoint Media Player . Never downloaded and installed this. Never saw it before. Immediately I knew it was some junk spyware program that somehow got onto my system and didn't get caugh
a long article on taxes. oh joy. by draginol: ===================== So next time you hear politicians debate about taxes, tax cuts, the debt, and "entitlements", remember these things: (1) Most federal taxes are simply pay offs to other families. (2) One percent of the population pays a third of those taxes already. (3) Beware of entitlements, in a democracy, the majority of people can vote in any entitlement. And when that majority only pays 4% of the total tax burden, such
ai vs ai i just found a bug where if you deselect all but two ai races and try to use the cheat key for dividing the galaxy the game crashes. but, another way is to choose the two ais you want to duke it out. make one totally evil and make the other totally good. keep the other races at neutral. make them incredible so they are using all their strategies. divide up the galaxy with ctrl-L. then give away all but one of your planets to the two ais you want to fight.
when i use cheat keys when i have only the drengin and altarians ais selected as the opposing empires, the game crashes when i use the cheat key "Ctrl-L" does it try to give planets to non-existent races? cbs, friday at 8:00pm est just hit record on your vcr before you leave the house :)
the bonus rating under each comment is there for the comment itself right? i only ask because the message sent to me says it is about the "article".
cubanbob (i moved some of my best responses up so things are not in 100% order): ------------- Now tell me again why is it moral for one person to pay a thousand times more than another and still have the same vote. ------------- because one person is equal to another under the law, as you mentioned earlier. the voting booth doesn't care if you got a purple heart, an alcoholism problem, twenty-three kids, no kids, or a solid gold roll royce. one man, one vote.
my bad(s): up above my response to draginol should read: "so their money, their contacts, and their greater ability to advertise and advocate their positions are not still greatly influential in the political process?" and "if they have a jobless 18 year old kid can s/he vote?" should be gone since draginol says adult dependents can vote right there. (i'm tired, cut me a break)
cubanbob Posted: Sunday, October 19, 2003 ------------------ This article is utter crap. ------------------ charming. it's great that there are reasonable people willing to bring up the level of debate in this world. ------------------ There has always been qualifiers on who can vote and rightfully so. ------------------- right...hence the comments about the requirements of male landowners, then all males, then women, then the 26th amendment, etc
yeah, joeuser definitely has a pause period after the header bar even on my cable connection.
There's a point when you achieve everything, but don't have it in your heart to exterminate every other race. What happens when you have no social projects to build, no research to do...no ships to build...and everything is swell? You snuffed out the annoying little races, made peace with whom ever is left, dominated the galaxy, and you are now bored.
try and get the aliens to kill each other. like bugs in a jar.
given the ctrl-n hotkey and the cheat keys, you'd think a pretty good scenario could be made with all those clone ships, battleships, teleports, and all research tech options. conquer the proper planets then give them to the appropriate empires. would be annoying to make (especially if you win by accident).
not just sf movies? remember hunt for red october? "we're already at 110% on the reactor!" "then give me 115%."
Joan is a teen who happens to be able to talk with God. Before you groan and click to another article, let it be known Joan of Arcadia is a great show. Never turns preachy or sickeningly sweet. There are certain rules in the show that prevent it from being Touched by an Angel . There is no miracle that saves her if she gets in trouble. There is no miracle where Joan's brother jumps out of his wheelchair fully healed and no signs that this is going to happen.

While reading over some Joeuser articles I noticed that there was a surprising lack of support for universal suffrage. In the comments section I listed my opinion that universal suffrage is necessary. I went on a soapbox a couple times and wrote a bit on my beliefs. The social evolution of the United States voting requirements changed through the centuries. Requirements were at first, only white male landowners, the
