Ok, seems like there's quite a few people with these problems. I'm not a real techie so can't see any common thread with what's going wrong, but a few other people have posted solutions to potential problems. To add to this, the support ability problem is especially pronounced in scout ships randomly decloaking mines. Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't - often 2 ships next to each other will behave differently.
Glad it helped some, sorry it didn't solve all. Seems the devs are looking into this, hope it gets solved soon.

Ok, had this problem occur today after I'd updated Sins Reb. Previously had the same with Entr and Diplo when attempting to play on 1920x1080 resolution, which Sins (up to Diplomacy) still won't(Reb runs in full HD fine). Only run it on laptop screen, no monitor. Updated graphics drivers, no joy, changed settings file to run at 800x600, no joy. Set to run from window, no joy. Delete local content, no joy. Set GPU to run game in NVidia control panel 'preferred graph

Thanks for this Bignick, covers a couple of points I was about to post: The Novaliths get broken out really early and against a TEC Loyalist (fortifier I think) seemed like they were spammed against me. This is especially bad with the more difficult AI settings (worth mentioning I'm not a hard-core ICO player; learning a bit before I go get bummed on the servrs!). I have a noticeable pause at a blank/black screen at startup on an i7 with 16Gb RAM - my mates with slower PCs say the screen can stay for a few minutes at a time. Are most people going to wait that long or just assume it's hanging?

Ok, I have an NVidia GT 555 and the above DID work for me. Rebellion runs fine at 1600x900 full screen. Thanks very much for the post Darstaed, not sure why SD haven't put this up as a potential solution.
Same here, exact replication of bug. Also, it happened to me with early versions of Entr and Diplo, only solution was to lower the resolution. Can't work out how to do that when booting from Steam.
Yep, same here. Followed all the usual drivers/compatability stuff but to no avail. Sins Entr/Diplo did the same until I dialled down the resolution, but I bought those on Impulse, and Reb on Steam, so no way the settings can be changed in an old version and then Reb will follow. Annoying.

Same here, except mine doesn't always revert...differs between different chapters too. Driving me mad! Seems fine all the way up until I try 1920x1080, then chucks a fit.
