Looks like we're just going to have to be patient. From the patch thread in reference to the /nosound issue:
GPG and Fmod (The sound library company they use) are working on it.
I'm not sure it's a motherboard specific issue as I have a Gigabyte EP31-DS3L and am experiencing /nosound related slowdown. I tried the very latest Realtek audio drivers which were released a couple of days ago but it didn't make any discernible difference. Anyone checked the new patch for improvements yet? Can't see any mention of the issue being addressed in the patch notes unfortunately.
I'm seeing a massive difference when using the /nosound switch too. With /nosound I get a pretty constant simspeed of 7+, without it, it eventually slows during the course of a game to 0 or -1. Using sound it's borderline unplayable at the later stages of a game, despite having a pretty constant FPS. I'm using an onboard Realtek using the latest drivers, set to Stereo Speakers in control panel and set to Low Quality and no reverb in the Sound options of Demigod.
