What are the levels of relationships? What's the highest and lowest? What do you need to be at to get an alliance? I imagine we could break an alliance by declaring war. Does the AI ever break an alliance with the player?

Was this a 1.2 addition? Maybe it's in the readme, I'll check when I get home.
I was playing my first 1.2 game last night and owned about 45% of the galaxy. Early in the game the 'Most Powerful Civs' report came out and I was number 1. Then after awhile I was number 5? I had the most planets, most population, most research, etc. How does the game decide what is 'powerful'? Not a big deal, but I'm curious - since that report comes out every now and then it would be useful to know what it's based on. Thanks for any comments. <
Thanks for the info. Is it cumulative? If I have ten on ten planets will my ships repair their HP faster than if I have 1? Does it matter which planet they're on? -M
Thanks, I'll try that tonight. I had over a dozen planets and was not in debt, so I couldn't figure out why I kept having to buy everything. -M
I was playing last night for the first time in months (and the first time with 1.2) and I keep seeing something in the build queue that said it 'would make repairs faster'. Ok, I understand productivity (a little, hammers, right?) And I know about morale, and food production. But what does 'repair things' get you? Does that improve your manufacturing? Does it speed research? Does morale go up when you 'repair things'? I'd be very interested in comments on what
I'm not very good at developing planets. I should be building something on each planet all the time, right? But on most of my planets when I try to build something it has 'Never' as a build time, so I end up running through turns to save up the money to buy stuff. Isn't it cheaper to build things? Is there something I can do to get my planets able to build up? The first thing I do on each planet is buy 1 factory. Should I have more? -M
Never mind. The robot that answers the support emails had the correct address on it, '[email protected]'. -M PS: Interesting article on another company that thinks internet validation is a good idea: http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/002380.html
I cannot be the only person in the world who wants to patch a legal copy of this game on a computer that is not connected to the internet. Where have they hidden the information on what hoop I have to jump through to get stardock to tell me it's ok to run my patched version of the product I bought from them? This almost makes me miss starforce (just kidding). Thanks for any pointers. I could have sworn this was out here somewhere, but I'm not finding it. I
You obviously have no idea what I'm talking about. Of course I don't object to downloading patches. I object to NOT BEING ABLE TO INSTALL THEM WITHOUT AN EMAIL FROM THE PUBLISHER. They don't require just a serial-number. They require your PC to connect via the internet to their server to 'allow' your patch to be installed. If your game computer is not connected to the internet you have to send them an email and they reply. At what point in time does that policy chang
My game pc is not internet connected. And I have objections to copy protection schemes that require you to essentially 'leave your house' to enjoy a product you've paid for. Unlike most people (apparently) I don't mind putting a cd in a drive. I own the cd, it only takes a second to put it in the drive, it helps the game publisher cut down on piracy. No problem. But not being able to patch a purchased game without external approval from a publisher? I find that unreasonable. What next, I
Let me put the disk in the drive and patch the game without sending an email to Stardock. Force me to put the disk in the drive to play, I don't care. But give me the option to get away from this, 'I need approval to patch my game' requirement. That's it. I'd pay $30 for that in a second. -M
"As for Stardock orphaning it's stuff, we've been in business 13 years. We're not going anywhere". That's good news, but...the past is not always a good indicator of the future. I'd be happy if I could do a reinstall with the same sig-file, or whatever it is. I wish Stardock would consider moving in that direction. What if you came home and put a dvd in your dvd player, but it wouldn't play. Not until you called or emailed the company you bought it from, a
Me again, allow me to provide a little more information. My game computer NEVER connects to the internet. 'Internet Security' is an oxymoron. I do not shoot craps with my computer. I have a dedicated computer just for the internet. I have a retail, boxed version of the game. Installed it, installed other patches, no problem. But now, I installed the 1.1 patch and I have to send an email to stardock to get that patch to work. So I get the info from the game computer, move i
Activation for windows is a small nuisance, but it's an operating system, so I guess I can see it. But requiring email activation for a game patch? Who thought this was a good idea? How does this work? I've sent off my request to the activation wizard, I'm assuming I'll be sent some sort of key. Will that key always work for my copy of the game? Or if I re-image my pc and reinstall this game will I need to send another email? If that is the case then this game is only a v
No, I would not. I have zero interest in multi-player games. I would buy an expansion pack that had new features, campaigns, etc. -M
And people look at me funny when I tell them my main/gaming computer NEVER is connected to the internet. I know EVERYTHING that happens on my pc. And I back it up before I install anything. This crap is going to be the end of PC gaming. -MB
I've not seen the Snathi yet, but I really want to. They sound great.
Since this is the 'general PC gaming' forum, I thought it would be ok to post this. I bought a game the other day for $15.00 at CompUSA that I think GC2 players would really enjoy. 'Children of the Nile' by Tilted Mill. It's a 'build an egyptian city' game from the 'Caesar 3', 'Pharaoh', etc, people. Very entertaining game, lots of depth and reminds me of 'GC2' in that it's very hard to stop playing! -MB
Um, I'm kinda a noob to all this, but why do we hate copy protection? Copy protection adds overhead to your pc. It can be a minor nuisance. It's annoying to have to put the cd in the drive - I own the software, right? Do you put MSOFFICE in the drive every time you run EXCEL? But the lat
My game pc is not connected to the internet (and it never will be). I have been able to install and run the game and install all patches with no problem. When you installed the game, did you type in the serial-number? They say it's optional, but I wondered if not doing it would affect patching, so I put in the serial-number when I installed. ??? -MB
My game keeps telling me I should be spying on the minor race, but I don't see an 'espionage' slider for the minor race. (I do have one for the major races of course). So is it not possible to spy on the minors, or am I just being silly and not being able to find the slider??? Thanks, -MB
New game, current version, all drivers new (just re-imaged my pc yesterday). I get about 8 turns into a random small-galaxy game and the turn button GOES AWAY. It never came back. It was such a new game I didn't have any saves to go back to. Very weird. I started another game and played for 3 hours straight. Just thought I'd mention this in case someone else had seen it. -MB
Check out www.wcnews.com (a great site, btw) for screenies of a Wing Commander art conversion some folks are doing for GC2. It is too cool. Damn, I miss Wing Commander. -MB
Even those class four planets can fit two labs and they need a factory to upgrade themselves. That is an excellent point, I didn't think about updates/upgrades. So far I only played one very long game on cakewalk and it kinda went nowhere for a long time. I'm trying to get a grip on the basics so I can do much better next time. This forum
