I'm going away for the weekend. (Don't have any cool discussions while I'm gone!) I'm going to a little family get together, but my husband isn't going with me. As I've mentioned before we aren't separated very much. To see us today you would think that we were going to be apart for a long time, but really it will only be two days. Still...I'm going to miss him! <

LOL Thanks Gideon! Those will probably come in handy.
It also goes in cycles. So when you hit the wall, dont fret. It will return. It has for many who take a hiatus, and then return fully charged. That's good to know. Kind of like my life... Due to some rather severe health problems, I'm no longer in the work force and I don't get out much, so JU has been a wonderful way for me to keep in touch with the world, with other people, and just for entertainment's sake. <b
My best advice in regards to that is to steer clear, don't take sides, and take each person at face value until they give you reason not to. In other words, don't allow these conflicts, and the way the combatants participating in them behave, to influence your own opinion. I'm doing my best, but thanks for the warning. Glad you are getting acclimated. Some avoid the controversial forums like the plague, yet contribut
I know, but surely pruning doesn't look so horrific! As my husband says, "You don't just go hacking, you prune with purpose!"
The gardeners were here today. I heard them outside while I was on the phone trying to listen very carefully to someone for whom English was obviously a second language. One of the things that attracted us to this particular apartment complex is the fact that it is so nicely landscaped and green (they water every night). It just makes me smile every time I come out my
I love writing. I’m not new to it. I used to write stories (only finished one) and lots of poems. I was published in my high school literary magazine. But, that was about the end of it. When I went to college, I didn’t have time to write for myself. Every once in awhile I get bursts of creative juices. JoeUser has given me a chance to have yet another on
As in life, often times the JUsers who garner the most attention are the loudest or most annoying. I'm pleased you're enjoying your time here so far as it really is a good community despite some of the jerks (San Chonino, while self-deprecating, is actually one of the good guys) I guess we kind of need the jerks around too. Helps me remember to be super careful not to be one! Although everyone is entitled to a down day here and there.
From the oh so dependable Wikipedia: Culture (from the Latin cultura stemming from colere, meaning "to cultivate,") generally refers to patterns of human activity and the symbolic structures that give such activity significance. Totally JU! There are definitely patterns of activity and symbolic structures!! I can't claim to be an expert on this yet as I am new around these here parts.
It's not a difficult thing to expect, but some kids, especially the older ones feel that they are too old to be accountable. My oldest girl thinks that way, even though she grew up with us being that way with her, allowing independence yet making her be accountable at the same time. There is however a time to let go, when they are old, even though that's hard to do. I don't have kids yet so I don't really know for sure how things will go. I agree that we
Waitin' for another poem...
Just to clarify, no one has been a jerk to me, but as I read other threads, every once in awhile, I find myself thinking "Ok, what did that add to the conversation? It was just rude!" Wow, JU a Culture! Who would could have predicted that?! Yeah...maybe I should look up the definition of "culture" exactly, but it is definitely another world in here!
OMG...I hate it when people always turn things around to be about them, but I just did that! I'm so sorry. Let me try again... I am impressed and pray that I will have such wisdom before too long... arg, not much better...
Wow, if all that is true, Bless You! I hope I get to that point soon...Think I'm having a second wave of teen drama! I'm working on it though.
This was a good review and good feedback. I will have to keep this in mind next time I am in the market. How does the cost compare?
I don't think you are off base. Every parent has a right and responsibility to keep track of their kids. I think the fact that your kids still do shows that you were able to do it without them feeling like you were just too controlling or nosy. That's what makes it hard. Teens especially are trying to assert their independence and are often put off by parents who want all the details, but if you start young and just make it a standard rule for everyone in your house then it should be easier.
So far I have loved being part of JU! I have learned so much. Seriously. I have learned about politics and personal relations, religion and lots of other things. I know way more about current events too since joining JU. I hate watching the news because it usually makes me sick or depressed. On JU I can choose what stuff I want to know about. Yea! Another pos
Sad that a kid so young could have such a negative view of school. I hope he has a good year so his ideas will change. I'll look forward to the update, and hopefully it won't include puke!
One thing that is sorely lacking among the Chrisitans is grace giving. We must give each other room and remember that we may all be Christians but we may be in different areas of growth. I remember (and cringe) at some of the things I did and believe as a Christian when I was a baby Christian. Now as I know him better and understand more of his will for my life, I know that bringing him glory is what I'm here for. Grace-giving, tolerance, patience and al
I like little-whip's ideas too because they involve natural consequence.
So far I have been really impressed with the way most people on here are able to respectfully disagree. I appreciate that. One of the reasons I joined was my concern that perhaps Christians were cast too often as closed minded. I am not a super thinker (I have my husband for that), but I have come a long way in my Christianity and am sickened by the way “we” are so mi
You really need to figure out your digital camera so you can share!
I would never go so far as to try and judge a person purely by what they write on a blog. Many people blog because they can say things and express thoughts that might otherwise seem out of place in their "real" life. For some reason we seemed to have clashed at the beginning (though I am still not sure why), but I really don't think we are so very different. I look forward to continuing to discover both our similarities and our differences. <
Awesome idea! I think using contracts with kids is a great way to help teach them responsibility. It is much easier to enforce when you have it in writing and they agreed to it. It teaches to honesty and sticking by what they say (is that the same as responsibility)? I also love how you included explanations of why the behavior was important. You might consider starting out by asking them what things they think are important and are the
How wonderful for you KFC! I know you will be blessed. And how wonderful to hear about other organizations that help sponsor kids in need. Keep spreading the word. It is true that we should do our homework to know exactly what our money is going to. I don't want to make a blanket judgment since I really believe it depends on what your priorities are. Some groups spend the money on large projects in the child's hometown. Some give most or all the money directly to the family. Some use th
