While I support the need to have some kind of control over the popularity of sites that encourage anorexia, child porn, terrorism and what-not, I certainly see the danger in the Australian government's latest move. The sad truth is that no government -democratic or otherwise- is immune to corruption, no matter how much they might claim to be, and this proposed "filtering technology" will most likely end up being abused. And what's more they'll probably end up charging us for it

I'd be fine with them the way they are if they actually worked, but I'm emphatically voting for the overhaul. Considering I haven't been able to post any images to my photo gallery for over 6 months now, even after having reported it, I will not be holding my breath. Still, life goes on.

Unfortunately, some software packages do use their own 'skinning' engines and therefore do not adhere to the user's settings. In these cases, it may be worth contacting the developer and highlight to them the need for an accessibility mode that turns off the skinning and allows the application to run with the OS' themeing options.
