I am on break for the summer. So, I broke out TA v2.02 with the latest version of the StarWarsvStarTrek mod and decided to do a summer epic. If I recall correctly, the event is that scientists find something or other that activates the PeaceKeepers, which are robotic ships. I always think of them as the Berserkers; they are "paid" for by some Precursor mechanism or other.

I guess it depends on the game parameters. I almost always play in Immense galaxies with 20 other factions. My games go a long time. Usually everybody is closer to the Precursor Ranger level (but not always); still, it showing up is not an automatic win. On the other hand, if you had Dread Lords on the map, you would be praying for the Ranger to show up. Bottom line is: it depends.
