A really easy way to do a mural, say of a world map or something, is to use an overhead projector and transparency filrm. Then, after tracing the projection onto the wall, all you have to do is paint . Our bathroom walls at school are all done that way, in different themes. A sickening case from Novi of a stepmother brutally torturing a two-year-old girl to death brings home again the sad realization that many people are vastly underqualified to care for children. A couple of days ago here in the Detroit area, two sisters were killed in the latest craze - jumping in a car after achieving a certain speed. Their brother was driving. They became airborn then hit a tree. I just heard on the news that the dad may be charged for letting the boy drive without a license. This is such a tough issue. I teach third grade, and already it's something I have to explain and warn my students about. The scary thing is, this whole bend-the-rules-until-they-break thing is getting way out of hand. My students push every time they are given a directive - they want exception after exception after exception. They've mastered this, and they're only eight. Hi! Recently the U.S.education secretary called anyone belonging to the NEA a terrorist. Excuse me? If a terrorist is anyone who uses whatever means necessary (whether it's creating a wild and crazy lesson plan, spending lots of one's own money, or getting more education to do a better job) to teach tomorrow's future leaders, then, yes, I am a terrorist and proud of it.
