Basic Cap / Titan Starting Strategy

So I'm super new, and would like to know what's the best way to start a standard (nothing unusual) MP game?

I'm TEC Loyalist. I start with Akkan, and then I thought I should get Sova after I've captured a few planets. I did this in my last game, and I was actually beating my neighbor, by building frigates that countered his, and it was a blast. UNTIL, his titan showed up. It killed my whole fleet as well as my teammate's.

So, is it best to rush straight to titan instead of getting a second cap? Because that strategy seemed to work like a charm against us.

Well if you are HuyMac, the best strategy is to get 6-10 skirantras regardless...

If however you actually want to be good, it is generally best to only get one cap as TEC or Advent before rushing titan...sometimes, it is useful to get a 2nd cap if you really need the planet bombing and support for wiping a suicide player, but generally you are better just building more LFs and corvettes...

I will say that smaller maps tend to lend more to building a 2nd or 3rd cap before getting a titan...

As Vasari you may want to get 2-4 titans before getting your titan....rebels can use SBs for their firepower (caps are for support and SC), and loyalists need caps for planet bombing and stripping (and possibly labs)...

My advice would be to limit yourself to one or two cap ships and to focus on making a large and powerful fleet.  The problem with capital ships in online multiplayer PvP is that human players will focus-fire them to death.   They'll probably take down your titan, too.  As a new guy, you want to focus on learning how to expand quickly and how to make a large fleet ASAP that's designed to counter what your opponent is doing.  Also, keep your capital ship(s) out of combat with human players, for now.  Put the capital ships to work away from the front lines.

Sounds good...Akkan then straight to Titan with fleet that counters opponents based on scouting. I can handle that
