What is the point of living if one does not have the power over ones’ own life?
Interesting thought.
The process of election gives us a sense of control over our own lives. It’s an act of a high degree of responsibility, both for the conducting authority and the people who go to vote. A person votes in his individual capacity but the impact is felt over the larger section of the society.
I think that some, if not most people, fail to see how we as a nation can change things when we've tried time and time again, and have ended up only making things worse. I think the sense of, possibility, is gone. No one thinks they can make a difference; perhaps, because of the extreme wings of the parties and other extreme groups have taken charge?
It’s like being a cause in the matter: the matter of our own lives. If we choose not to vote, we basically avoid being responsible. Accepting responsibility is not easy.
I like the saying: Didn't vote? Don't complain.
We love to play the blame game. Forget about the nation at large, we cannot even take responsibility of what is happening in our personal lives. We have someone or something to blame for all that is not working in our lives.
I agree whole heartedly! We do love to play the blame game; not everyone does, but certainly there are moments where something is obviously our fault, but we point the finger.
We do not realise that we are an inherent part of our environment. We are not a victim of the problem but a part of the problem itself. Yes, we have the choice of being a part of the solution.
You can be the problem, or the solution. <-- Great saying in my opinion.
Leaders are a mere reflection of the society. But we love to blame them for anything and everything. It should not sound as if I am standing in defence of the leaders. But there is a total loss of self introspection in our society. Instead of blaming the leaders why not ask the basic question—why are leaders the way they are? It’s because they are just like us! Very difficult to face... isn’t it?
I agree; there is little inrospection as a society. We go in the same circles time and time again, and expect something different. Does a man who makes the same mistake end up with anything diffrent? No.
As for leaders, we like to think that they're a refliction of us. I would tend to think they assume the position (lol) of being representative of our interests, when in fact they represent their own interests - nothing more.
How would you say they're our mirror?
It’s like looking at oneself in the mirror and getting scared!
We get what we deserve.
We get what we vote for, and we deserve what we seek. Lather. Rinse. (Bend over?) Repeat.
