Here's the setup...
AI is down to its last planet, is building Frigates and a Cap ship - Battleship. System turrents have been destroyed earlier in my attack.
I'm attacking with 2 small fleets in system and 28 attending Squadrons, and 1 fleet flanking - they are dealing with the escaping Frigates it turns out.
I have sent the Squadrons off to play with anything thats not the Cap ship factory, or the Battleship that emerges. The Battleship once finished heads toward my cap ship fleet, a Level 3 Battleship and a Level 3 Progenitor Mothership. I'm ready for some big ship entertainment, up close and personal.
Now here's where it get interesting, the enemy Battleship moves between my 2 cap ships, ignoring my Battleships' Antagonize Ability and makes a b-line for my other fleet, which on the face of it looks like 6 Aeria Drone Hosts all lined up in a row.
At about three times the enemy Battleships weapons range I order the Fleet Leader to engage, its not toothless like the rest of the Fleet. The Drone Hosts split exactly down the middle of the line and the Leader moves on through, a Level 9 Halcyon Carrier. My thought was, I'm gonna probably loose several Cruisers here, Fleet 1 is still getting turned around and then has travel time, the Squadrons are on the other side of the Planet/Gravity Well, the carrier is quite high level but its still only a carrier. To my surprise the Battleship gets a good look at the Carrier and turns away, earning itself a broadside from the carrier which finishe off its sheilds. By this time I've forgotten to give the Squadrons new orders and they've finished off everything behind the planet, so they come to play as well...a single pass by all 28 Squadrons and the Battleship is a wreck.
I'm left with a Grin from ear to ear...and wondering if the AI didn't 'see' the Carrier. If that is the case, then I take my hat off to the programmers - how many times has game AI been all seeing all the time...
