·Introduction:
Have you ever imagined a game where you could play as an “Empire Commander” and or the choice of being a soloing “Freelancer”? I am hoping through this introduction I could explain some detailing information over this “Gaming idea”.
·Game Function Idea
Let's use our minds for a moment, imagine a screen, a screen that shows a list of "Self-generated" stars, stars that which is generated by a “master server” from a new player creating another new empire on the game. You have 2 selections - The two selections are the following, "Create Empire" and or "Freelancer". Now "creating an empire" you go through the screens of naming the empire and choosing the race you want along with the symbol and color. (Or could be no colors but an image symbolizes your empire) If you so choose "Freelancer" then the given player would then choose there name, and symbol along with an image picture.
Once the "Freelancer" player have chosen the star of which where they wish to be, they then hit "Connect" just as creating another new empire...Server loads, places them in a random position of the star they have chosen, (now each new star is created, 1 more star is self-generated around that one, this would allow that empire or player to move freely to expand outward before taking on bigger empires or the chance to find other players to join there empire or to become allies with. Yes, I did say join, so like as if a player who is soloing (under a 3rd person ship) decided to allied them selves or join to a (in the system of that star) empire or already made Freelancer fleet of another player to fight for, and also gain the benefits of that empires research or plunder of the new joined fleet. Also depending on the empires research of what they have obtained will depend on what the player could buy from that given empires market. (But, of course keep in mind, order for a given soloing player to purchase anything from a given empire that they are allied with, they are to take there ship or ships to any of the empires planets or asteroids that the given empire controls and if the given player leaves the allied empire they will lose all items and benefits of that empire).
Each given player who which decided to become a freelancer shall start out as a "Pirate" at a random location of a self-generated star with a "free" given self-generated pirate frigate ship and or chooses a star that which "Other" player pirates ships are located at, unless a given "player empire" has been detected under that given star, then that given star would no longer be part of the "Stars selections list". Each ship that a player obtains will have there own specs that of which you could alter to change like for better shields or weapons, to movement, to lighter hull that would increase speed of the ship but lessen the armor of the ship. So, more armor, less speed, (depending on the engines you have). Every player can purchase weapons and shields and other items for there ships from empires or pirate bases. As a Freelancer, you cannot conquer to control a planet, but you could conquer a planet to obtain credits from a given empire or pirates faction. So, say if you were allied to a given empire, you then attack a neutral planet and won, the planet would change to the empire that of which you are allied to, and you are given credits for it or unless you are not allied to any given empire then the planet would change back to neutral and self-generated pirate ships would spawn with a few pirate gun-turrets.
By becoming a freelancer player – You have the benefits of obtaining the biggest fleet you want but of course every ship does not come free. As a Freelancer you have to obtain credits, metal and crystal by doing missions that are given by the faction empire or raiding an empire structures if there is booty placed on that empire. (Of course if you are lucky you might be able to obtain metal and crystal from an allied faction if you are lucky).
You could also obtain metal and crystal by conquering planets for a given empire; you would gain a small percent of every amount that the faction empire obtains from that conquered planet you made. If you left the empire that of which you conquered planets for, you would lose all benefits of obtaining the metal and crystal, so make your choice wisely. As a Freelancer though, (not belonging to any faction but only to pirates) you do not gain the benefits of obtaining metal or crystal for conquering planets but only be given credits for the destruction of that planet.
·The development of a customized players ships
The key about both options in the game of Sins of a solar Empire-Empire Commander is that as a “Empire Commander” you cannot Customize your ships but only build your fleets, and economy but as a “Freelancer” though, you are allowed to customize any and every ship you obtain that is part of your fleet! Not to mention, if you join another freelancers created fleet, you would obtain the benefits of the knowledge of how they designed there ship!
Every design of a ship will determine the outcome and ability to fight for you. Example: If you design a ship with to hold five hard point weapons and only have say level 1 engines, then that ship will travel rather slowly until the engines are more upgraded. (Keep in mind, any given ship may hold any technology of weapons you like to have on the given ship but the more powerful the weapon is the more power it takes out of the ship to fire!) So, as long as your Anti-matter can sustain the power output that is needed, fire away mate!
·Anti-lag function
Like all servers and games…You hear “LaG!!!!” Well, when I have a will, I have a way and believe me! I have a way! The idea behind this is real simple honestly, for every server that is being hosted, there is like for all servers, a program connected to the server to monitor the ping for each player. If a given player reaches a ping of like 400+ the admin program will auto-boot but not ban and send a message to the given player saying “Auto-boot for high ping – please relogin, if your ping continues to be high, please try again later”. This prevents a lot of complaining of players about the high ping in-game. Understandable, many might not like being booted, but we would want a stainable server that could function rather than having unhappy gamers who are saying “forget this” I’ll go play my first person shooter!
·Master Server and Servers
Okay, you must be wondering how could such an idea would ever work? Easy really…A lot of the works is dealt with Multi-Servers for each created new star – So, for every empire that is created in-game, 2 stars are born and it will send a message to all players that are online “New stars created” not giving names of the star but just the fact that its there. (I do suggest that all stars have no names attached to them to keep players from tracking them). Each every 2 stars is 1 server and all the servers are maintained by a master server or could be done by as 1 master server to every x amount of servers. (I really don’t know anything about how servers work so this is just my in-put of what I think). In-game though, how traveling would work, on traveling to another star that is “another server” as you reach half-point of between the stars you are auto-disconnected taken to a loading screen to load the next star for the next system.
Note: Keep in mind though, you can only move x amount of ships to the system if you have supply for that system, if you do not control the system then you are freely to move any amount of ships that you have to the given star system. You cannot however move ships to a system and then rebuild the fleet backup back in the other system and then return your fleet from the other to double the fleet, you may only have the amount of ships in the system that you have fleet supply for otherwise, they ships will remain.
Note: How ever! For freelancer players – your fleet is not limited to however many you may want in a given star system, as long as you have fleet supply to support your ships. Pirates raid empires and never allowed to conquer any given planet.
