What Mods Should I get?!?!

--Just got this game.

So, I just picked this game up. I'm reading through trying to figure out what mods I should get....can I get some advice of some 'must haves' that will improve my joy of the game?

I realize, after spending the day reading, that most are still works in progress. I've got the Mars modd, but i read it doesn't work with v 1.3 . I got the sinsplus mod, but I dont know how to merge any kind of mods together.

Anyhow, for you experienced folks, give a new guy a hand, and let me know where to get started.

Graphics mod to improve effects in the game.

Beyond this there really isn't much else except some tweaks here and there. The final modding tools are not released yet and this is limiting the modding community, when they are released expect a explosion in the number of mods.

there are many (and im one) who enjoy sins plus. its in the download section along with others. it adds more planet types along with other tweeks.

In my opinion... play a couple games in the basic vanilla version of the game straight out of the box with the latest patch.

Ok, i know what you need. If you like single player or play with a friend i have the perfect mod for you. Currently as is, you can have only one mod active at one time. But, the modders can combine mods together.

Then try out this mod, gives you lots of new planets, planetary bonuses, new technology levels (getting to max level will be epic)and balance tweeks.

Distant Stars Mod + Uzzi's Planetary Mod.... New updated version due out Sunday or Monday.

But dont be afraid to try out different mods to see which one you like and new ones are always coming out and old ones are always changing.

There's not really many. The big ones are the texture pack, bailknights graphics mod and uzii's sins plus. There's a thread on how to merge them all, that's what I play with now.

There are some other balance mods around but unfortunately they make pretty arbitrary changes. Good ideas in there, but loads of untested changes just for the sake of making changes rather than improving things. They few I tried a couple had a baffling desire to slow the game right down (because it's clearly too fast now right?!) or introduce out and out game breaking stuff like massively increase the amount of ships until the game slows down and crashes.

Couldn't recommend any of them other than the three enhancement mods.

Also beware of other old mods pre latest patch which keep getting necro'd for some reason, like the mars effect.

To be honest... Sins Plus, Bailknight's Graphic and the first Texture packs are Addons, not Modifications.
