About how many different types of ships will Sins feature per team? I've heard the game compared to Supreme Commander, and one serious problem I had with that game was the over-specializaion of units. Are there so many units in Sins that the units are all specialized? I know there are different classes of ships (frigates, cap ships, and smaller ones as well), and I assume there are different types of units within these classes, but just how many different units are we going to be dealing with? One of the reasons I want to play this game is that I absolutely loved Homeworld 2, and I think that game struck the perfect balance with number of units and versatility of those ships.
There are six frigates (scout, light, flak, siege, "assault", colonization), four cruisers, (carrier, two "support", and a heavy), and five capitols. The specialization isn't that great, except for the carrier / flak counter, which is
the most pronounced counter in the game.
I know technology upgrades will play a role in the game, but just how important are they? If I compare a non-researched capital ship and a fully-upgraded capital ship, how noticeable (visually and otherwise) will the differences be?
Capitol ships aren't the best place to talk about upgraded units... but at higher technology levels, your talking about a (potential) 30% difference in HP, shields, weapons damage and a heft armour increase between a fully researched unit, and a non-researched unit.
Finally, I heard something about unit experience playing a role. How important will this be in comparison to technology upgrades?
Capitol ships are the only unit in the game that gain XP and levels. It plays a
major role in their development, as they gain stats per level and abilities as well.
