but it sounds like it's going to really be a different game.
Nope, it's going to be Star Control. You were just expecting to only get Star Control 2, but you get both in your Origins. Bonus!

Here's just some feedback from the August update, from the text and video interchangably (and incoherently, probably). * Loved the video. I felt there was a missing opportunity when you teased that you could have the captain lipsyncing your words but weren't doing it at that exact moment you were talking about it :-) * Supermelee is looking great, and is obviously a lot further along than the current camper build, I'm looking forward to trying the new build * Can

I know what game I'm playing, and I couldn't give a toss if anyone else knows what game I'm playing (nor could I imagine anyone cares about what game I'm playing). I mean, talk about adding features nobody asked for for no good reason at all. Why would you install an actual client o
I PLAYED it endlessly, and non-stop for months. But it's not what I yearn for and have yearned for, for the last 25 years. It was just combat.
Right, so I'll bet that overall you played it more than the adventure part of the main game, which you probably played all the way through 4 or 5 times and thus spent maybe 20-30 hours on. You would have spent a lot more than that playing SM "endlessly non-stop for months". Tha
With regards to Super Melee. I very much disagree with those who suggest that Super Melee should be first person. I adamantly want Super Melee to be a top-down, arcade like experience, not some sort of sim style.
Totally. There are plenty of FP space games out there. It just wouldn't be Star Control if SM wasn't top-down.
Fine. Stardock couldn't pull off proper PG. But, please, at least don't trash talk the ones that COULD. NMS might not have perfect 8 quintillion planets, but 8 quint. is not 5000. And NMS has at least 5000 breathtaking PG landscapes in its universe.
That's a ridiculous statement. You're saying that PG works perfectly in NMS because there are (you estimate) 5000 breathtaking planets among the quintillions tha
I'm left wondering though, about all the feedback regarding SM from the current build we have, for example: - ship playability - was discussed thoroughly in a forum thread - ship's starting positions & speed - wrap around / zoom bugs - more ships that we haven't seen yet basically wondering if we'd get more incremental updates or any more response to feedback until the alpha/beta starts?
This was not rambling, or overly wordy.
It really was. Dude, I'm not trying to start a fight with you or insult you. YOU posted a message about crickets wondering why nobody was responding and I told you (as gently as I could) why. IBN followed up with a similar comment. Rather than insulting us in return, try to take on-board what we said. You have good and interesting ideas, but instead of taking the time to

Yeah, I have to admit, your posts are really interesting if I bother reading all through them, Kang, but to be entirely honest they're SO long and often rambly that I find myself glossing over them for the most part (sorry!)
We intend for the game to include multiple ships per race but only 1 in super Melee. In super melee you will be able to add your own ships with ships made by others and play online with others with them (ranked mp will be limited to official ships only).
If you're going to make (say) 3 ships per race, then you've already constructed them in-game anyway, so why wouldn't you make them available for people to play with in su

Here are my thoughts on some of the ships: Trandals: I really don't like this ship. It's a weird shape and the pseudo-3d makes it bloody hard to tell which way I'm even facing, especially the way the angle keeps moving as I rotate the ship. Also, the bola's weapon does almost no damage, and I fail to see the point of the super speedy secondary attack. I think this ship needs a lot of work. Tywom: I like this shop, but the main weapon is too affected by momentum. It's impossibl

I'm so pleased to see that in the picture of the ship designer, it looks like crew have gone back to discrete dots instead of an evaporating bar as it is in the current alpha SM build. Great update, thanks Brad!

No, his policy seems to be milking the fans, publishers and interviewing networks for as much fame and money as he can and keep the gravy train going for as long as possible before they finally notice that he isn't actually writing the books anymore.

I don't like it (sorry). You're trying to squeeze "realism" into the game, but it's not about being as realistic a space sim as possible, there are plenty of games that try to do that. StarCon is (and always has been) it's own beast, and one of the major factors of StarCon is that crew and energy/fuel are your resources (for the melee part of the game). Changing that would be denying the canon and I personally would hate it. As for reduced flagship functionality based on
the Pilot AI in any Star Control is not good enough to mimic human piloting and ingenuity
So? A shitty AI against another equally shitty AI will probably see similar overall result trends as a hotshot human against another equally hotshot human. It would certainly be enough to ballpark the general level of the required point cost, and then the ship could go into a probationary period during which as humans use the ship
The issue as was originally pointed out is when trying to create a flexible ship customization system that produces 100% balanced ships. Pretty much an impossibility, and too much balance will make it simply boring.
The ships should NOT be balanced. That's not the point of SC SM. The more powerful/grunty a ship is, the higher its point cost value. The balance is at a fleet level, not at the ship level. Let peo

I haven't had a chance to see dialog in game yet, but I fully agree that the entirety of SC2 oozed with theme - none of the aliens talked "like humans would", they were has definable traits and ways of speaking and that goes a long way towards the feel of the game. Here's hoping this post is seen and absorbed!
