#654 by Veteran Ray the Wanderer - 7/27/2003 7:58:23 PM IceMole,Let me try submitting and revert to you so that our knowledge in this area is complete.
Good idea, Ray. My assertion only comes from calculating Code Monkey's score (i believe he mentioned that he had resubmitted quite a few games) without trouble.
Hey, maybe someone should write a simple program to allow us to see our new total score by throwing in a game. Or the game score needed to reach a
Blocks are determined by the length of the month. Since most recent scores are in July, the most recent block is 31 days long. For Ray, it's the days between 27/07 and 27/06 inclusive.
So you are saying that counting backwards, the last day of the block is the same day of the month as the submission? (i.e. Ray's blocks are 27/07-27/06, 26/06-27/5, 26/05-27/04, and 26/04-27/03)?
#649 by Citizen Gengsta - 7/27/2003 4:49:37 PM According to my estimation, submitting the game tomorrow should increase his numbers significantly - around 800 points. Sometimes that is even more than people get for new submissions.
I am almost certain that resubmitting does not change the date.

Gengsta: While your method works for Ray's score, it doesn't appear to work for mine. IceMole @ 21 Sums: 56 (2) 689 (3) 21255 (7) 86540 (9) Sqrt and Truncate: 39 397 8033 28846 Degrade: 33.15 357.3 7631.35 28846 Add then Truncate: 36867 Actual List Score: 36868 On the other hand, with your method I came up with 99970 even rather than 99970.5 for Ray, so perhaps I misunderstood you.

Bob Harris: Since the number of games on your player page and the list don't match, I seriously doubt this is a calculation issue. I'm thinking that your registration is somehow mixed up with another Bob Harris who submitted scores with an older version. Hopefully tech support will be able to help you out. KitWarrior: Well, I've just run Ray's numbers and they are coming out just right for player page score. I'm now finding his list score off by 1 point (I may have been too hasty i

This should now be 100% accurate in describing metaverse overall score calculation. For the score as shown on the player page: 1. Separate the scores into blocks of 30 days, counting back from the most recent submission. 2. Within each block take the sum of the scores, divide by the square root of the number of games in the block and round the results to the nearest whole number. 3. Apply the appropriate degradation to each block score. (10% per month) 4. Add the final b
So you see it only has to be worth 33% to produce the results indicated not 50.
Oops! That's a pretty silly mistake for me to make when I'm trying to pass myself off as mathematically competent. :notsure: I still say 20-33% seems rather high for what Frogboy described as a relatively small adjustment.
One extra note. Of course this wouldn't be the first time Frogboy said it was supposed to score one way and it actually scored another way. [/quot

What I am thinking is that the problem might be situational rather than numerical. It seems to me that evil ai civs are slower to make friends and quicker to start wars. I also understand that maintaining economic and military dominance over the other civs results in a higher score (isn't this how players are getting such high scores on low difficulty?). So if all of the ai civs are evil, they will end up fighting among themselves, hurting their economies. If all of the ai civs are good, they wi

A planet's morale is based on the number of people living there and population grows when morale is greater than 54%. This means that all planets slowly move toward 54% morale. Morale improvements essentially increase the planet's maximum population. If you have built morale and PQ improvements(which increase max population and therefore morale), there is nothing wrong with planets at 54% morale.

If I remember correctly, T-Man said scores would bottom out at 20%. It is, however, an interesting question what happens when scores more than a month apart reach that bottom. If the blocks are based only on age, growth should pick up a bit after 9 months of play as 20% scores stop degrading while new blocks are still being formed. On the other hand, if blocks are based only on the amount of degradation, there may be a slow score collapse after 9 months of play as all

Blocks are 30 day periods determined by the time of the player's most recent submission. The full score block has all scores 0-30 days before last submission. The 90% block has all scores 31-60 days before last submission and so on.
Also means that at the start of each new month, overall scores will jump up very quickly and of course scores during the end of months will tend to not do much to the metaverse.
Remember that the 'end of the month' in the metaverse is the date of your most recent submission, so the status of scores being at the beginning or end of the month tends to change with each submission. The time to look for score jumps is just after the first couple of 'month anniversarie

I've just been playing with the list scores and having success by applying half the degradation, or 5% of the base per month. Unfortunatly, it still seems to miss by a fraction of a percent when more than a few games are involved.

Actually Ray, I'm not so sure this is a change. I have been playing with score calculations since I started in the metaverse, and while I don't have the old numbers to back it up, I have noticed that my score at least has been higher than the classic formula since my fifth game. Looking now, I see that this is when my first game first aged. I think the reason people are noticing now is that their inflated 1.05 scores are beginning to affect multiple blocks, working more efficiently.

I do not believe there is any weighting based on version at the moment. As an example, LarryHal with score 6986.4, rank 569: Date - Version - Score - Degradation - Current Value 4/7....1.02......93......80%...........74.4 6/23...1.05......6912....100%..........6912 Block 80%: 74.4 / 1(sqrt) = 74.4 Block 90%: 0 Block 100%: 6912 / 1(sqrt) = 6912 Total: 74.4 + 0 + 6912 = 6986.4 This corresponds exactly to his player page score, so there does not se

Class 15 planets do become class 18 with soil enrichment and habitat improvement. I believe that the way it works is that each PQ improvement adds to the planet's PQ bonus stat and when that changes PQ is recalculated from the base PQ with decimals dropped. Thus for a class 15, with +10 PQ it is 16.5 rounded down to 16 and with +20 it is is exactly 18.
