The news of hiring of Kael (Fall from Heaven onto HEllemental) got mostly positive feedback and most posters were saying it was a good direction for Elemental, and we *have* seen quite a bit of improvement in 1.1 whereas Jon the Chafer has received 80% negative feedback, so lets see what happens to 1.2 (there was some complaint of small, unnoticeable buttons in elemental UI, at lease we *know* from the horse's mouth itself, that buttons are going to be substantially bigger :-p )</p

Quoting FrogBoss: Well if you've been a customer a long time then consider this: If you listen to the Internet buzz, I'm a moron who couldn't design a game to save his life. Elemental being crummy at launch was due to my incompotetence. I ruined it. That's the Internet buzz. Do believe that? Nope it was due to insomnipotence, or was it nincompoopotence.. he he. And the poop did hit the fan at Elementals release, but thats past tense. The present,

I'm surprised X-Com Apoc got so many good reactions :-) . It was savaged by reviewers, from what I remember. Still, after bringing Elemental to where GalCiv is right now in a year or two, Stardock could possibly start another cycle of Release Unfinished / Patch Continuously / Brickbats and Bouquets with the "Spiritual successor to X-Com".. Edit: Just checked the Impulse store, and X-Com Apoc is there, only 5 $ (18 bucks in local currency), but sorry, this Item i

X-Com. The predecessor is Master of Magic, of course, but a re-make of X-Com with the Elemental engine would be good, in my opinion. The mechanics are there, squad based combat, squad leveling up (XCom had individual units though, not groups), building up of bases, and so on. Why this thought popped into my mind is that the talk of remakes has been there for successful games, like Final Fantasy 7, which had a tremendous storyline, and though I tried to play it again, the

"Everyone falls the first time" The Matrix Just read through a couple "early game walkthrus" and you should be doing fine.. takes a few tries and save reloads. Anyhoo the first few steps - found kingdom immediately near fertile land, hire Janusk, build Beacon of hope, build one workshop, one hut, then one Study, meanwhile explore nearby with Sov and Janusk in two directions after purchasing Travelling boots for them (but dont go too far and keep away from monsters in

One possibility, if a caravan goes to a city where there is already a trade route, it stands outside the city and doesnt move till you click on it and sent to another city where no trade route exists. Also all units or hired champs should be safely inside the settlements, if they are standing with nowhere to go the turn doesnt seem to end.

V1.1 seems really polished. The spells especially look good. Right at the time you start getting arcane knowledge and start learning spells, you see the spell icons improved. I have used raise land, lower land, teleport and fertility (been relying on Might instead of Magic on Tactical battles.. ) and the spell effects look cool. Monsters are now unable to roll over Sovereign decked in leather armor and sword + shield, and this is a welcome improvement. I wont say the game

I was also dreading the 1.99 GB update.. after about two hours of trying to get a reasonable size of the update to show (restored archive many times, shift+click and verify etc) I went ahead and clicked update.. the download has started.. *hallelujah* *angels singing*.. only 11.5 MB total even though it was showing 1.99 GB..

Version 1.1 Changelog by FrogBoss (in Elemental Dev Journals) has a lot of info (page upon scrolling page of improvements /changes), including Prestige increasing improvements.. one way to increase prestige is to learn Fertility and cast it. Magic has become quite important (as it should be) and controlling Shards is one of the main priorities now. So you also have to have arcane knowledge to learn spells and tech knowledge to unlock shards.

Quoting Trojan "Where's Derek? Must be sleeping..." Reminded me of Derek the Magician, brother of Mandrake the Magician. Both went to the school of magic together, Mandrake followed the Kingdom path and Derek was lured to the Empire path of the Magic. Finally, Mandrake had to suck the magical knowledge (essence) out of Derek's mind (like sucking water out of a sponge). .. and so we know now, what happened to Derek. Derek became a Project Manager instead of a magician and FrogB

The game has improved, and the AI has improved as well, you can see that from the way the progress curves of empires keep up with yours. Having said that (Ive always wanted to say that), some AI's should be "fortifiers" which keep increasing their troop strengths and defend well. And I thought Stardock released V 1.1 cause after 1.09w there were very few alphabets left.. suggesting the use of chinese or korean alphabet in version numbering, he he.

Havent managed to play 1.09q quite yet (current status: 2% of 1.9 GB downloaded, I managed to un-install elemental somehow, and Impulse wont restore the old archives), but there was a strange thing in 1.09p. Somewhere just outside the influence zone of a neutral empire, there seems to spawn an entire 2-3 level city worth (about 16 x 16 tiles full) of quest goodies. I set my sovereign and a hired champ loose on them, cleared every one of them, received countless +1 to attack, def, charisma, et

Thanks, youre my saviour (and a saviour of precious GSM GB's) :-) Ruminations: So I managed to un-install Elemental. But there are still 9 archives (2 GB each) in the impulse backup directory, including one archive of the 1.09e. When I try to restore an archive, all I get are empty directories...

This rigmarole of going back to 1.09e and then going forward patch to 1.09beta etc.. unless you go back to 1.09e Impulse wants me to download 1.9 GB each time. I'm on a wireless connection in the middle of the desert and my GB limit is 10 and unless the patch size is small etc etc.. The reason for this rant is that somehow I managed to uninstall a perfectly good functioning 1.09p and now Impulse wont restore any one of the 9 (counting them one by one, 9 archives of elemental from 1.06

Trojasmic - Excellent job Stardock! You're almost making me forget about the 20-30 new quests we need... i said almost. Econ - At this stage I think they should add them as a reward for your single minded persistence. Quoting impinc "Grow your population as fast as you can. Seeing as population generates income. Also, make sure you don't spam buildings too much in the beginning as alot of them have maintenance." In the 1.09o (for outstanding) patch, specialization of the settlements has been taken to a whole new level. I was spamming Tech studies and was shocked to see gold going negative. Prestige has been made *very* expensive (eg -3 gold for 1.5 prestige) so the Royalty trait is a lifesaver. To get more

Ive been playing quite a few hours, and my impression is that the game has substantially improved. The going has been tougher and more satisfying. Still trying to balance income/food/tech etc. The level 3 crash when I tried to train units is no more after I deleted older custom units. EDIT And tactical battles are really fun. 5 or 6 single monsters are easy to defeat single handed, though it takes some running around and healing.

My experiences exactly. I wonder if the crashing will go away when city is leveled to 4. And I started late cause initially dloaded above 1GB of "update" before the forum post became available about the "go back to 1.09e then update to 1.09o" topic. The game mechanics seem completely changed (again) and so a few tries will be required to streamline a strategy..
