Hi Wyndstar, thanks for your great post, it's always a pleasure to get insight into the strategies of the pros, gives me pointers how to improve my own game. I have two questions concerning the giving-planet-flipping-back: 1) Doesn't it flip of the AI when you do that (alarming influence and such)? 2) Why do you remove the population before giving away the planet? Is it easier to flip an almost uninhabited planet or just to not give the AI additional tax payers? I use t

You probably colonized one of the new Class 1 worlds. You can colonize those, but need to research Terra forming technologies to actually use the squares. On a higher class barren world, the squares should be immediately available to you, like any regular planet.
Be careful about that alliance system. In my games my 'allies' usually only come to my aid when I'm already almost done with my enemy, but not sooner. Or do you play a race with the super alliance ability?
It's true, that the penalty only works if they start their turn inside my sphere of influence, but I've never seen the AI react to that and actually build faster ships to get in there quicker. And yes, they are first reduced to 3 moves and then the inhibitor kicks in. Sit back and enjoy watching your enemies crawl up to you. Asgard time dilation field anyone?
I think the star bases in the system are ok overall, but I'd like two things: - more hp, they really die waaayy to easy - some icons around the star base, like around a planet, so that I can see by looking at the map which star bases can be upgraded for weapons, shields, ship assists and mining modules. When you play on gigantic maps, it becomes tiresome to check all your star bases to see which could build another mining module and which is already full. Some simple icons would
I don't know about you guys, but I rarely use military star bases. They are usually not worth the micromanagement. However in my current game, the Thalans quickly decided to attack me, because they thought I was too weak to be a 'worthy neighbor'. And they were right, my military was pitiful compared to theirs, and their fleets were already on the way. In an act of desperation, I built a military star base in the corridor they would come through and equipped it with some assisting modules for m
There are several other settings, that influence when battles are shown, for example 'Only if both sides are fleets'. That might disable the viewer for you, if you only fight with single ships.
Hail to the King, baby
Great story, little tough on the slaves, but nevertheless. Keep up the good work soldier.
Too boost your military rating you could also built one or two military starbases and equip them with every available weapon. Much cheaper than building a whole fleet of ships. That will scare off most other races who would otherwise see you as a happy-meal
Ahh, good old Alpha Centauri. Every now and then I get the cds from the closet an re-install the game. Once that happens, you can usually forget about me for at least 2 weeks. No game had me this hooked again, until GC2 came along. And with DA, that addiction only got worse
I think Stardock should simply offer a 30-day trial of DA for everybody who owns DL. I can't picture anybody going back from DA once he has seen and played it. Kinda like going from riding your bike to driving a car
I guess it would be just a little too unbalancing if you could 'aquire' the super abilities of the other races. But the spore ship would fit nicely in my Yor-Fleets
In my current game I'm surrounded by minor races, 4 within two sectors of my Homeplanet. Nice for trading. I try to keep them out of harms way and they build up starbases nicely. But suddenly one of them just declares war on me, for no reason whatsoever. So, I thought before I wipe them out in one turn, I might as well contact them and see what's up. Immediately they beg for their lives and give me everything they have (except their homeworld). Guess they had a little coup with their government
Did you watch the Video from E3? Totally awesome. I loved TA, played it for years. I hope they get the unit management right, looks overwhelming so far. Can't wait till next year.
Does the 'Mind Control Center' actually do something? I've built it three times so far, but the other worlds didn't flip over to me any faster if at all. And my influence was over 4 on those planets, even before I built the Center.
Happened to me once. I parked 3 of my megainvaders (able to carry 4k troops each) in orbit of a class 6 world... I guess most of my soldiers took the moonwalk after one round.
On the lover left side of the normal screen above your income stats the is a little symbol like a downpointed arrow. klick on that and move the cursor to the place where you want a rally point.
When you research a weapon or other ship equipment, the research screen will show you which ships this new tech enables and what other techs are required for them.
@Japata: Great Ideas, I would love to see portals of some kind as well, maybe a portals starbase. I think the portals to another savegame is a great, yet crazy idea. Imagine the AI using that feature. One second you're beating the crap out of some civ, the next a huge portal opens and unleashes that civs monster fleet from 2 games back, looking to save their brethren in another dimension (stargate anyone?) <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/sm
I've had my shares of tributes as well... One day I thought I'll use my galactic powers to get some new slaves. So I start talking to the Thalans, who were weakest in the galax at that point. I wanted them to surrender to me, so I chose the Option 'surrender' from the diplomacy options. Imagine my suprise, when in the next screen the Thalans thanked me and greatfully accepted my surrender... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH @Devs: Why
I remember in one of my first games the Torians declared war on my pretty early. I was the second biggest civ out there but they still outnumbered me 4:1, so I built a military Starbase at a strategic pathway through which they would send their attackers at me. That way, 5 little fighters (uograded Star Furys) held of at least two dozen Torian fleets of lerger, more advanced ships. The Starbase improved my fighters shields and weapons a lot. While they kept the Toria
I think the space in GC is just a liitle too empty. There is so much stuff that's floating in space, why not add some to the game. You could for example add nebulas, which could influence sensor readings, movement speed or even damage ships passing through. Or introduce astroid fields, which would make some space impassable, like a wall. Great use for defense!. An maybe just some things for graphics, like a passing comet or something.
