'And i never threatened anyone =P

Im just saying the dude who paid for it is a federal law enforcement officer =P (he also owns this house)'

I don't mean to be insulting, but just mentioning that he was a federal law enforcement officer is an implied threat.

What you intend and what you actually say are two entirely different things, and we can only tell what is, not what you wanted to be.

'(When the serial number IS entered it says expirirationdate 1900)'

That is usually caused by an incomplete update or a failed connection.

You may want to try killing the registry entries and reinstalling the DGM.

Also, check your serial number carefully when you enter in in the user information. The Windows clipboard likes inserting extra spaces at the end of the string, and while I haven't run into the problem with the DGM, in the ODNT Component Manager that could cause it to fail to update properly.

'Meh i was upset at the time =P already sad sorry and what not'

So I noticed ;p

'Did all that and nothing but someone else is having the same issues so im guessing an issue at there end '

From what I could tell in those two threads, it's more of a was than an is, but that is a possability.

I'm having the same problem--downloaded DGM and installed it, but when I run it, nothing shows up under "Games." I have "Show Betas" checked. I've reinstalled, plus I've sent the error file to Stardock, but they still haven't come up with a solution, and I purchased the game about two weeks ago. I'll have to see if I can figure out the registry thing, although I don't know exactly what I'm looking for and I'm a bit leary about messing with the registry.

On the other hand, it's clear that this is not a scam. I doubt that all of these posts are phonies intended to sucker me put of my money--not to mention the coverage of the game in the gaming press and the fact that Stardock is a real business with a number of other products. But, I really do want to play this! Reading these posts here has me all psyched up, and it's frustrating not to be able to play, but throwing accusations around doesn't seem like it will get me anywhere. I just hope that someone in tech support can come up with a solution soon!

I was just wondering whether the people having problem were running SetiSpy/SETI@home? I know that this does cause problems with connections to the Stardock server, and does result in getting a 1900 expirey date.

I've never heard of SetiSpy, so I don't think I'm running it.

By the way, I originally downloaded DGM on my old computer, then a week or so ago when my new one arrived I downloaded it to the new one. The old one was an IBM laptop running Win 98 SE, the new one is a Dell running Win XP. So, two different computers, two different OSs, but neither one can access GalCiv. I've even used two different ISPs, one on each computer.

Hrothgar, you can back up your registry file before you start messing with it. Just choose Export from the registry editor file menu.

I'm not much help when it comes to problems with the DGM, since I only actually work on GalCiv, but Jack is right, T-Man aka Pat ([email protected]) will probably be able to help you.

Thanks, CariElf.

I've been in contact with Pat, altho it's been a while since I heard from him. I guess it's taking him a while to figure out the problem--plus, I imagine that the relelase of Beta 3 and its upgrades has probably taken a lot of everyone's time.

Still, I hope that he, or anyone, can figure this out soon. I'd really like to play this, and I'd like to be able to contribute to what remains of the development process, which will be easier if I actually have a copy of the game on which to comment.

Exodius, Sorry for the delays. I've had my nose glued to the monitor for a few days now and unfortunately I do not work weekends. I also had Friday off so I have been playing a bit of catch up as well.

Anyway, I have been looking a few issues. One of them being a problem where people's expiration date has been showing up as 1/1/1900. When this occurs it means that the users account was not able to be validated in our database. I have just discovered a bug in the serial number algorithm code which was causing some serial numbers to be invalid which would give you the expiration date above. Because of this you would be unable to see the game.

Looking through your postings I assume that you are having the same problem. I have corrected this bug. If you restart the DGM it should Auto Update itself and assuming that indeed this is the problem you were experiencing you should now be able to see GalCiv and be able to download and install it.

T-Man

Same issue. Just updated and still no luck. Reinstalled everything. Also tried on my laptop running win98se

I don't know whether Exodius' problem is fixed, but I'm still unable to get the game. As a matter of fact, things are worse. I tried uninstalling DGM and reinstalling it again, and now, when I try to connect and the registration comes up, I fill in my serial number and submit it, but I get the message: "Error: unable to connect to server."

Any ideas?

Hrothgar, let me know if you are still having issues. There is a new update available.

T-Man,

Yeah, still no go. Unistalling and reinstalling DGM has simply cut me off completely. As I noted above, after entering my serial number and clicking "Register," I get the following message: "Error: unable to connect to server." So, things are even worse than they were before.

I'll email this to you also.
