Turbine Entertainment has announced that the alpha stage testing for their upcoming MMO, Dungeons & Dragons Online has started. Players interested in being part of the public alpha testing must register at the game's Official Site and those with forum accounts will get a better chance at being selected. Unfortunately at the same time, there is bad news. The release date for D&D Online has been pushed back to from November to the first quarter of 2006.
The digital version of Stormreach will be built using the version 3.5 Edition rules of Dungeons & Dragons, but developer Turbine and Publisher Atari have decided to split from the pack with this MMO. Unlike most MMOs, D&D Online will be going for a smaller world, keeping it more densely populated, in the hopes of creating a closer community and giving players the ability to see the consequences of their actions. D&D Online will also break from the pack by offering experience and "phat loots" from how many quests are completed, and not how many enemies are slain.
