B1 - Disappearing Techs for research

I thought I had seen this before in the Alpha but couldn't be sure, now I am.

Techs disappear from the list of available techs to research when you haven't actually researched them. If you save the game, exit and load saved game, the techs are back again.

Just happened with Cloaking. Dreadnaught Technologies was the first in the available list yet I hadn't researched Cloaking. No matter how many times I clicked the up button nothing happened. Saving, exit, reload and voila there was Cloaking again.

Hey dominic, just so you can be sure of your sanity, I also got that disappearing tech tree in the last alpha. I did eventually find the solution you suggested :)

I don't have that save game anymore to check what the techs displayed were (I updated to the beta the same day) so if I do come across it again I'll be noting more info on it

It looks to me like I am also getting this problem, but I have not played enough games to establish a pattern or to spot any particular tech as the trigger.

I have experienced this as well...a pain in the rear :notsure:

I noticed it with Alliances, Star Democracy, Dreadnought Tech, Battleship Tech....quite a few really.

They are disappearing and not just getting shoved off screen by additonal techs?

That is correct. They vanish from the menu. Saving and restoring brings the list of techs back to what it should be. This has happened to me even when the list of available techs doesn't fill the list to the point of needing to scroll.

I thought I was getting a pattern to the dissappearances but then disproved my theory. Just in case I was on to something but didn't have a complete picture of what was going on, here is what I was beginning to suspect: It looked to me like they dissappeared if I had investigated a research anomaly and had last moved the list down so that the top of the list was off the research screen. I was unable to recreate this sufficiently to verify my theory, however, so more work has to be done to develop the complete picture of how to recreate the failure.

Also, since saving and restoring a game restores the complete list it looks like sending in a saved game to help Stardock locate the problem will be of little value on this problem. So unless Cari or Brad or someone at Stardock can recreate it by trial and error it will be up to us to develop a clear picture of just how to make it happen.

By the way, the one who develops the most recreatable picture gets the kudos.
