Altarian Prophecy Campaign Feedback

Altarian Prophecy Campaign Feedback

Hey, guys, we really need feedback on the Altarian Prophecy Campaign. Not only bug reports, but critiques and suggestions as well.  All criticisms, good or bad, should be backed up.  I.e., no posts saying "This sucks. Make it better."  Explain why you don't like something, but please be civil.

As for bug reports, please give detailed information on how to reproduce bugs. If you have a save game that can reproduce a bug, I will want it.  You can e-mail save games to me at [email protected] along with a description of the bug and how to reproduce it in the save game.  If you are using mods, I will need the mods in order to load the game so include those as well.  However, it would give us better feedback if you were playing without mods.  Mods can be disabled before starting a game by opening your prefs.ini file and setting EnableMods = 0.

As for crashes, if you are getting frequent crashes, please install and run Smart Exception from Stardock Central under the free stuff tab.  Smart Exception will create a log file called GalCiv.exe.cra when Gal Civ crashes.  This file and the debug.err file from your galciv directory can help me track down a crash.  However, if you have a save game that reproduces that crash within a few turns, that is even more useful.

I'm enjoying the campaign so far. My only complaint is that the campaign seems to be just a series of scenarios strung together. It would be nice if your performance in one scenario would effect the later ones. Maybe some way to keep all or some of the technology you've researched. How about a way to keep certain ships between scenarios? Or perhaps your score in each scenario would influence how much starting cash you get at the beginning of the next? Just brainstorming. Thanks.

I have played a couple games in mission 2. Both times, my relationship with the Altarians has been hovering between warm and friendly, and then out of the blue they declare war on me.

The campaign is fun and a welcome change but as the text/story needs filling out a bit in my honest opinion... it falls short of creating an atmosphere need for this galaxy. Thats just my opinion though ;).

This might be because of the typos and use of english detracting form a good story.... anyway a good look through the campaign text and fixing up some errors should make: the drath not control the drath and that would be batter. <- creative use of some errors I found LOL .

End-Of-Turn automatically starts, before I've actually finished working on my stuff (financial balance, research, build queues, etc). This happens when I move a ship, but it was the last ship that didn't already have orders. This usually means that some of my newly completed colony ships don't get launched on time, because I want to manage the amount of people taken from the planet.

Possible solution: Instead of auto-starting the next turn, have the end-of-turn button change colors to indicate that everyone else has orders.

Don't forget the cigars.

Trade the Altarians 1 influence point every turn.

It's like saying, "Have a cigar."

Why don't you turn off the option "auto-turn"?

Why 1 influence point every turn? It reminds me a loophole that was closed in a previous version (1.10 or 1.11 I think)

Handing out cigars doesn't improve relations?

Not if you don't smoke!! ;)

Smoke has been seen to come pouring out of my ships as they limp back to port, but I don't think that's the same thing.

AP immediately reminded me of Deadlock 2. I never liked DL2. The engine was uglier and the missions bothered me. It was like playing a tutorial and the missions made little sense.

Now in AP I have absolutely NO mission info or goals of any kind. I'm playing completely blind when suddenly the missions end for some unknown reason, albeit successful. At least in DL2 there were voice overs (IIRC) and clear mission goals. The impression was supposed to be progressing towards the ultimate goal.

So, what's the AP goal? All I have been able to deduce is that me and the Altarians are supposed to become bestest buds and fight the bad guys, end of plot. No prophecy, no ancient tech, no ancient knowledge, no nothing but killing the bad guys. No point. I can play this in GC.

The AP missions are similar to DL2 except that they made no sense. There is no impression of progress towards a goal. I'm just playing a different scenario that isn't even in the same galaxy. Where's the galactic map (HUGE) identifiying the cluster in which the campaign occurs where progress can be seen as each campaign concludes? And if AP is only a conquer the galaxy mission then I must assume the prohecy has nothing to do with why the Altarians and Humans are so alike.

Anyway I get to the mission that plays the victory "all races are living in harmony" or some such. From this I conclude the game is over and was left with the impression "Is that it? What's the point? This game is just as buggy as GC. There are no nea features, just a mission editor." All we have done is conquer. Regardless I click the Next Mission button and am surprised to see yet another even bigger mission. And still no mission detail of any kind.

I look for an AP patch, find a GC patch and install it. I am warned about old saved games so I delete all AP mission saves without a tear shed.

RasterOps, are the objectives not showing up for you on the mission status screen (the one after the campaign select screen)

Ok I have the smart exception file for my 100% reproducable crash, but I can't find the location of the save files? If someone can tell me where they are or what they are called I will send all the files CariElf wanted to Stardock.

Select the Menu, select Mission Info. No objectives, no team info, no mission detail, only the map. It has been this way from day one. I'm just playing cause I like the game not toward any goal.

I installed AP from download then learned that GC required updating. After updating GC, I began the first new game as AP.

If you check show Pre-Release versions on Stardock central, can you see a beta version of AP? Other people were reporting problems with not being able to see the objectives and the update fixed it for them.
