URGENT :STARDOCK PLEASE NOTE : SECURITY

Ive been playing with the new beta, i just tried to load a saved game, loaded to 100% then CTD, tried the auto save, same. It hasnt happened all afternoon, so i thought i will 'zip' it up and send it to CariElf, i just looked at the save file in a text editor, my Serial number is bang in the middlle for all to see, is this correct? I dont mind sending things to CariElf, but i know that once the expansion is released there are going to be lots of save files being passed about.

Thanks

Serial numbers have always been in the save games so that you can't pass around a save game for people to submit.  When you submit a score to the metaverse, it checks both the serial number recorded in the game and the one in your registry.  The database is supposed to reject games that don't have matching serial numbers.

Jaws, will you please install SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock central? It will create a crash log when Gal Civ crashes.  This will help me track down the cause of your crashes.   I can't fix crashes unless I can either reproduce them or get the crash info from a SE log.

Cari, is there any way we could "invent" a succession game serial number? That way we could pass around saved games without being able to submit them into the Metaverse, but still have a little security.

Jaws, Darkspire,
I just saw this post by carielf in the AP bug thread. Maybe it will help with your CTDs:

"Save games with rallypoints are not loading correctly. I've fixed the problem here. I tried removing the rallpoint information from a savegame that someone sent me to see if that would let me load it, but I must have deleted too many bytes because it started crashing in a different place then. If anyone tries it and is successful, please let me know."

LOL, that was quick. :) Was just coming here to repeat that post.

AmulekBird: All you really need to do is replace the serial number with the appropriate number of zeros in the save game.

Jaws, yes, the debug.err file might help.  Hmm, if you didn't have any rallypoints saved, it must be something else.  Can you send me your save games too?

having someone else's SN# is somewhat useless, only helps in installation

i still ask for the registry info to be encrypted as it carries the username + pass and such

Darkspire, try loading it and the saving it under a different name and see if the re-saved game works.
