Trouble registering Retail product

Hi everyone

Can someone (with connections) notify STARDOCK that I am having troubles with registering my retail version of GALCIV.

I have sent both Sales and Support an e-mail and have yet to receive a response. I am on the west coast and it is 10:00am so somebody should be working at STARDOCK by now.

Thanxs

I think that the best way for you will be to call at 1-888-782-7362 (that is Stardock phone) but I think that they will be close starting tomorrow for the Holidays until January, not sure do.

I just called them and they told me to contact STRATEGYFIRST.

Was I supposed to go and register my product with strategy first...first?

I know that Strategy first was distributing the game, do your game came with the ID number? ON the back of the CD?

Yes it had the number on the back of the jewell case.

Also I went to the StrategyFirst website and they do have a place to register the product.

But I am having trouble with making the connection of registering my product with StrategyFirst on their site and STARDOCK. I thought the STARDOCK SYSTEM was pretty much self contained.

I don't have the CD case with me now (low whispering voice...) I'm at work.

Maybe that is the key...since it is a retail version maybe I must first register my product with the distributor/publisher???

I bought a retail version of GalCiv at Wal-Mart and I didn't register through Strategyfirst. Have you completed this yet: http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp

Well...I am not sure. I doubt it...that link looks like it is specifically used to post scores to the metaverse. I will submit my info later but I don't see how that solves my PATCH problem. All I need right now is connection to STARDOCK so that I can patch my game.

Right now I can't patch my game because STARDOCK keeps telling me that my e-mail account doesn't match what their system has.

All I did was created my Brasscorpion name...which the system asked me to do...downloaded and installed STARDOCK. When I downloaded and installed stardock it asked me which product I had purchased and then asked me to input the game code and to submit my e-mail. :sniff!:

Pretty simple stuff that I know I couldn't have messed up.

Also when I ask STARDOCK to confirm my information they send me a confirmation e-mail and the e-mail address that they send me IS THE EXACT ONE I AM USING when trying to register.

I'm lost...

I am wondering if my McAfee virus scan and firewall are messing up the communication...I am running XP PRO by the way.

Also does the CD need to be in the CD drive?

I know that firewall tend to mess thing up, I will try to have the firewall down as a test and recheck, did you go to the right lower corner of the Stardock screen to enter the information to register the game?

Yes...the right lower portion that says register...that is when I get the error message. When I hit the "register" button.

Well I just downloaded the 1.1 patch from the DOWNLOADS section of this website.

It says that it is version 1.1 (with bonus pack)

During the game when you hit the MENU button and then look at the top of the screen mine says 1.04.

So I have to figure that the 1.1 patch is newer that my version. I could swear that on STARDOCK central that it says I already have 1.1 though.

So am I missing 1.11, 1.12 and 1.13...assuming that each was released in order?

I have the retail version also. I registered the game on stardock using Stardock Central and had no problems. If you try and register through the web page, I think it expects it to be the shareware version downloaded from stardock. Have you tried regitering through Stardock Central? Have you downloaded Stardock central? It is a great way to access the patches and even the forums.

One more thing for you to do, go to the Stardock, go to tools and click on edit Stardock.net account and make sure that your right e-mails address is there. You only need to download 1.13 because the previous one are already included in that one.

Also if you plan to play neutral or good, you may want to join our empire, the great Empire of The Light. ;)

In Stardock there are 3 downloads from 10/17/03 and one download from 12/16/03, make sure you have those. ;)

Thanx Terl

That is when I run into "PROBLEMS". Stardock central will not allow me to update using the "updates" system. It keeps telling me to register my product.

It has to be a STARDOCK issue and not STRATEGYFIRST. I will call sales again.

I registered mine with stardock central. Have you tried that?

BTW, I did nothing to register with Strategy First. I just installed GalCiv, installed Stardock Central, registered the game, and got the patches.

Did you buy the game new? Or maybe off ebay? If it was used it could have already been registered.... just guessing at things...

Brass, do the following

first go to the blue box that reads registration info and register your game under the section that says game and under the application that says galactic civilization, if you don't have that name in the application, type it on the box and then type your name lats name email address and serial number and then click update. After that go to the top of the page to tools and click on edit stardock.net account and make sure that you have the same information that you entered in the blue box. after that you can also in tools click on look up serial number and make sure that the e-mail matches the other two and click submit and then Stardock will sent you your e-mail with the number for your product, try these 3 steps again and let me know what happens.

Okay...Admiral

Thanx for the help everyone.

I will try all the steps...then let you all know. It has to be something that I am doing or it is an issue with my system and STARDOCK. It seems as though everyone else has made the connection flawlessly.

One other point here...I used my SCHOOL e-mail account and as such maybe that is where the problem is.

For example the last run of letters in my e-mail account is @gsm.uci.edu

I wonder if the .edu part is messing up the connection somehow and so maybe STARDOCK is not recognizing it as a valid e-mail account because it doesn't end with .com like HOTMAIL.com

Thanks for the help...I will work on it at home and then let you know...

Any way

HAPPY HOLIDAYS :CONGRAT:

well I tried everything.

I am going to now create a new and different account using my Yahoo e-mail address.

Hopefully this wont mess things up any worse...I kept my same real name...but changed my nick name to Silver Spider...and of course changed my e-mail address.

I have the same problem. When I try to register it says my email address is different from the one they have. I know this cannot be the case as I can have them send me my account information to my email address. Its starting to become frustrating...

Support is probably backed up from everyone being gone for the holidays.

E-mail the file at c:\program files\stardock\sdcentral\login.txt (or wherever you installed stardock central) along with an explanation of your problem to [email protected] and they'll get back with you as soon as possible.

I'm having the exact same problem. What makes it more amusing is I *know* they have the right e-mail address for me on file, since I already have an OD subscription. It's something particular to validation of GalCiv. Maybe someone's running around with cracked SNs out there? :(

Whoever is having problems getting the updates, email [email protected] your serial number, the email address you are trying to use, and preferably \program files\stardock\sdcentral\login.txt.

From reading the above posts, it seems like there's at least one instance where someone has 2 different email addresses.
