Bug Reports for 1.13

Bug Reports for 1.13

Please post bug reports here for version 1.13.

If you are asked to send a save game, I will need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name.  Zipping them usually works best.

My e-mail is [email protected].

Please give detailed explanations on how to reproduce bugs.  More information is better than less.

If people start out reading this thread, there will be less repeat bug reports, and it will be easier for everyone to read this thread.

Thanks.

This is not actually a bug but i think it fits

Is it me or ist the AI getting more and more warry with every update of GalCiv and it needs more and more games to get a useful start at all.
I started about 160 games last two weeks and there was only one continouable for more than about one game year.
This is realy starting to piss me off!!!

Series of Typos -- looks like a programming error

On at least 3 Wonders / Trade Goods (Diplo Trans, Micro Bots, Propoganda Machine) when you hit the little question mark the percent sign and space after the bonus number are missing.

There was a typo in 1.2 where a random event about blood said "this discussing trend" s/b disgusting

RasterOps

The game often does not recalculate until the end of the turn, so when first load a save game things are a bit bizarre.

Economic mood swings only exist until you understand the economic model. Coupla points: Turn-to-turn income fluctuations are often caused by trade starbases. If you set up a number of trade routes at the same time and all their little freighter ships pass through a sector with a couple of trade starbases, your income can go up a lot (+200 easy) for a couple of turns, then drop back to normal. If someone demands a big tribute or you trade cash for something it is counted against you that turn. If you make a trade to receive lots of cash over several turns, when it goes away it can be surprising.

The other item you mentioned, shrinking economy at the end of the game is common, and can certainly be overcome. The biggest thing I see is your statement "morale is fine". If you consider fine to be around 50%, then your economy will stagnate because population growth stops at around 54%. Keep your taxes low so your overall approval is around 80% and your best planets are 100%, and your population -- read that tax base -- will grow rapidly.

The other thing I see at the end of a long game is taking over a number of inefficient planets. Since you are probably already supplementing your own bad planets with trade income, adding more bad planets dilutes the trade income further. Also, they often have improvements you don't need.

Morale and economy are your best friend!!

I don't see that at all. The AI's seem a little more benign to me after 1.2, and I find good starts around half the time.

I do believe CTL-N gives a different planetary frequency statistics than a clean start, but they tell me it's paranoia hehe.

I've been having another problem for a few days and it seems related to one particular Galactic Council event; when I get the event about sharing techs, if by some stroke of luck the vote ends up on 8, the game gets stuck in an infinite loop.

Proof: I taskswitch out of the game, look at the task manager, and GalCiv eats up 99% of my cpu for at least 5 minutes :)

System specs: Athlon XP 2000+ with 512mb ram running on an XP machine.

I just had a hangup in after visiting the UP - It presented a choice of tecch sharing, and the vote fell on sharing two techs. I was rather curious to see how this would happen, but the game hung while displaying the vote result (After clicking the "Done" button - ot whatever it's called).

I have an Autosave and unfortunately no other means to recreate the crash.

My game stops everytime the Council demandes to exchange technologies. I give my opinion of how many have to be exchanged, I push the "Done"-button and than my CPU runs at 100%. Only choise is to restart the game with the last autosave and to hope the Councel have other bright ideas. Is it because i've just downloaded the latest patch ?

I would sure like to know what I'm doing wrong, nothing makes sense! It seems like others have no problem with their economy, with raising money
End of quote

RasterOps - Trust me, you're not the only one who seems to have major problems economically for no apparent reason. I've had them in similar circumstances to, where I am far ahead in every field compared to the AI, but seem to be losing money hand over fist.

My last game in fact made me shake my head when I was being left behind in the Military race to build ships by the Torian's... and I'd taken all but half a dozen of their planets by flipping them!!! They were STILL able to field a much larger force than me (Avatars and larger too!) and from the spoils of flipping I can confirm that they were building everything possible, even Virtual centers and Plaetary Defences which are not cheap to run and something I don't build! When flipping an enemy to me, I remove all the unwanted buildings, and morale on my planets and over all tends to be great near the end of a game

Only advise I can give is to make sure you're trading to your max allowance, and with planets worth trading with (far away from you, etc)

Carielf has said some abilities don't have any use, and won't until GalCiv 2. This could be one of those abilities.
End of quote

Hmmmm I don't see why StarDock can't either "activate" or remove the offending abilities entirely, simply to stop any further confusion, especially to new players. I'd consider fixing the existing product a good idea before GalCiv2 is released (and is possibly treated the same way QA wise) I'm getting the vibes that unless it's a simple "and" critical error in the game, it will remain as it is from now on... I can only wish that I'm wrong :(

Reload and take a look at the technology panel. In particular the turns left for the current tech. It's wrong! This aspect of the game does not get updated when a game is loaded. Was it 93 turns or 17 (NO EXAGGERATION!)? I better increase my tech spending just to be sure...
End of quote

This happens to the Influence in the galaxy also, not just to Tech... it takes the game at least 1 turn to "catch up" but then it rights itself. An annoying quirk that's been around for a while and doesn't look like it will be fixed either :(

The silver lining to this is that I've never had a CTD either, fortunately... yet

Carielf -- didn't you ask for a screenshot of the display corruption in the little advisor field?
http://www.pyroteknots.com/pix/corrupt1.jpg
I think it has to do with a little freighter in a stack when another ship is selected on the stack.

Also, did you know that a minor's original planet doesn't show up as yellow under Stellar Cartography. It hasn't since at least 1.05, but I don't think I have heard it mentioned.

Interesting... I saw that, too, but only in one game. It seemed to hang around until I saved and reloaded. It was fine and then all of a sudden the advisor field got corrupted as described. Since it only happened to me once, I wasn't paying attention to what the circumstances were when it occured.

I am new to the game and admitidly im having problems, but i beat a few games on the easy, then i try the next step up from tiny galaxy and im stuck out in the middle of no where 3 sectors from any suitable planets :sniff!: and then the drengins get ticked at me, and come out with their aphrodisiac tri-strontium super cruisers 9 months in and wipe me out?! what the heck

also in another game i researched everything, even evil things, got final frontier and all that jazz, but didnt win, a minor also got it before me! prolly why i didnt win. then i got angry and just got 9 constructors on a starbase and pumped up my sectors thing by 380%, and flipped 9 stars in 3 turns how ya build them not on a resource? double click???

Tech share UP sucks...

is the crystal the thing that makes a race gain a little power each month or what ever? if so, when the dregins beat me down, i shoulda had it, not the Yor, who then almost saved me!!!

Evertime that I start a new game my machine freezes if i click on the menu tab, i have a save game that i can load and everything works fine, but if i quit out of galciv and reload then go to "restore last civ" i still can not hit the menu tab. if i have to reinstall i will but if there is a fix other than that it would be great, this did not happen until 1.13

Thanx for the clarification and help. One thing I have been doing wrong is not selling tech. I have always perceived this to be an advantage not to be readily shared or given up. Then I tried it... :D

This is a bug thread, for reporting and reading about program errors, crashes, etc. A better way to get help with problems would be search the other threads below or start a new one with specific questions. You might check out the strategy forum (button on the far left) for lots of tips.
Cheers

For Jeblackstar, do you have Stardock already downloaded, check to see if the registration has the code for your copy of the game. I have found that when in my stardock screen (at work) I dont have the ID number for the game (all the numbers in the back of the case of the CD) it doesnot let me send the results, or better said it doesnot let me post the results, because the game is sent, but somehow it doesnot get posted in my score.

MINOR bug:
BREAK ALLIANCE button is over the TRADE EMBARGO spot once you ally with a major power. This may have already been mentioned.

This is intended. You cannot embargo an ally.

In my current game, the Alexians just had the "radical change of values" event. Except that I took over their planet several turns ago. And I'm pretty much certain that they do not have another planet. I guess they were in the purgatory and made it through to heaven ;) . (they were about 20000 on the planet when I invaded, so I guess it took time to process all of them :) )

Remember when you take over another planet you just kill the soldiers no the public. ;)

I guess it was the non tax payers: they do not count as military in the defense, so they survived. And they certainly were bad, since they did not pay. And then, event, they become good monthly tax payers :) !

And, in that same game (cf #145) the Arceans (the yellow ones) are building starbases like crazy. They have 10 to 15 (don't remember exactly) in one sector, including 3 side by side. They are all simple starbases, with no modules, doing nothing except costing maintenance.
I though you couldn't have more than 1 every 3 parsecs. (the 3 side by side are not on resources or anuthing, just plain & simpke "stage 1" starbases.

And here I've been self-policing myself! I hadn't even tried! :SURPRISED:
