Bug Reports for 1.13

Bug Reports for 1.13

Please post bug reports here for version 1.13.

If you are asked to send a save game, I will need both the .sav file and the folder with the same name.  Zipping them usually works best.

My e-mail is [email protected].

Please give detailed explanations on how to reproduce bugs.  More information is better than less.

If people start out reading this thread, there will be less repeat bug reports, and it will be easier for everyone to read this thread.

Thanks.

Between 80 and 90% of the time when I try to start up a game, I get a BSOD after the scrollbar finishes its trek to 100%. This crash can occur either at the beginning or the end of the animation. The particular BSOC error message I get is DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL

For information, I'm of Win2k SP4, if that helps (I'm trying to avoid reinstalling Win2k if I can at all help it, although I might go to WinXP Pro if need be).

Finishing a single game before updating really shouldn't be a big deal.

That depends on how slowly you play!

I'm also having the "click on the menu button...wait Long Time" problem. I thought the program had hung up completely, and in fact when I called up the Task Manager it said "Not Responding" but while I watched it went back to "Running." It takes a long time any time I click "Menu." If I have a corrupt file then it happened very early in the game. AFAIK my drivers are up to date.

In the french threads many people are asking about this (mostly in french). Just to make sure it's known, I'm translating the essence of the message here:
"the patch 1.12 for the french version has a bug: only two propositions at UP. the only way to correct it is to download the 1.13 version, but then the game reverts to full english. If you have a solution for this, thanks".

I hope this helps your prayer be heard germain alain ;)
J'espère que aidera ta prière à être entendue ;)

The driver irq not being equal is the exact same trouble I was having.
updating my sound drivers fixed it....does your board have a c-media CMI-9739A chip in it?
if it does goto C-Media's website for the newest driver

One way I have fopund out how to tell if the game islocked or still thinking is to zoom in or out. If nothing happens then I just wait some more.

Yes, and no. My board has the chip, but I've got the soundcard portion of my board turned off. I do, however, have the Hercules Muse Gamesurround DVD 5.1 sound card, and was finally able to get driver updates for it. The odd thing is, none of the flavours of Netscape, IE, or Opera I have would let me get to the point where I could get the download link. That took Mozilla 1.6. :)

I've already managed to play a small game under 1.13 and am currently dloading 1.49 so I can give that a shot too.

The I-league gets defections from planets with low morale, from anywhere on the map. It is NOT culture flipping.
End of quote

Thanks for that, makes sense now :)

I did encounter (for the first time ever) the Event that causes the Evil Draginol to overthrow one of my planets (The event that warns you to evacuate a few turns beforehand). I immediately gathered an invasion force and headed out to take it back, but thought I'd communicate with them, and ended up trading 1 Trade Good (something pretty minor at that) for well over 150,000 BC and all of their Influence points!

Normally I wouldn't take advantage, but as I was beginning to fall behind due to the Alterians culture flipping the other races, I took it and traded the money for tech advances with the minor races etc and caught up :P

I've never been able to trade so easily with any of the other Majors or Minors, so am wondering if it's a known issue or not?

Hi there,

My problem is that my downloaded update (to Version 1.13) of G.C. crashes mostly because of the "fly into the anomaly" problem! Now I did read about that Problem in the forum of metaverse and I have also downloaded and installed the presumed solution file

by Senator CariElf - 12/3/2003 3:24:19 PM

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/anomaly.zip

But unfortunately - the Game doesn't react to the file or falls back into the old version short after the start. Than the asteroids look again like sun-like cristalls or small cabbage (green) inststead of grey-white, round pieces of rock - and as soon as any survey ship flies into it - the game crushes. This can even happen after several Free ships have been collected after 20 turns or so. So far I managed to finish only one game with the add on (V 1.13 or additional expansion universe file) and it looks as that record won't change.

By the way: I left the game for a while to itself (1hour) the game crashed too and afterwards wasn't to play again since it crashed 5 turns later (even restarting my Game/computer didn't help)

So my problem remains - I can only play my original German Version - 1.0 ... without crashes - and of course that Version isn't as cool as the one with the adds.

I get a crash when the Draginol come in. I got the "evil fprce building up in blah" message, waited for them with 2 Combat Transports and a fleet, about 1 1/2 game years later, the game crashes, and the auto save before it is corrupted. It's probably the draginol (I reloaded previousautosave without problem and a few turns later, around the same turn as the first crash, it crashed again.)
Sounds like it would be worth submitting the save game etc to CariElf LavaLampMaster if it consistently crashes at that point

I don't know if this has been reported before. It has been discussed here about a bug with terror stars, when put in a fleet they have more than one move. What I noticed in my last game is a bit diferent (beyond the previous bug I mean): if I select a fleet of 2 ships which I fleeted again with a TS.
A few turns later, when I try to select the whole fleet, only the original fleet of ships moved. I noticed that if it is not the TS that is selected (in the screen where we can see the details of the fleet composition) only the ships will move, leaving the TS behind, unprotected.
Since my ships were away anyway, I decided to attack enemy ships in the sector that may attack the TS. When that is done, I select the TS, which still has the 10 moves capability, to bring her close to the ships (they were still out of range). And surprise: the ships disapeared from their last known location, and were beamed directly "inside" the TS!
Hopefully I've seen my share of Star Trek episodes, and I know stranger things have happened, otherwise I might think this was a bug ! ;) But I'm certain it's just an emergency transport device. Good job scotty :)

i am not sure if anyone saw this but in one game, the altarian republic had 15 constructors on a resource without building any base on it. the torian constructors just waited outside lonley.

Hey guys.. First post! (considering I got the game 3 days ago)

I found a bug. It's kinda small, but hey, it's a bug, and seeing as I work in QA for a games company I'm kinda used to writing these reports.

In any case, if you are building the Galactic Guidebook and click on the ? sign, it's description has problems. Namely, instead of seeing the % sign in the description, it shows 18900448, with the last 8 either overlapping or messing up the 'i' letter from the word influence. The whole text appears as "A comprehensive guide to the Galaxy. 151890048nfluence bonus.", with a \n or a wrap after the 15 in the big number.

I don't think I need to post my system specs.. :)
Havent heard mention of this one ... :D

In the usual race for the resources and star systems my little hero ship found a military resource right on the edge of Terran and Altarian space so i sent two of my constructors to go there with my fingers crossed and as i was busy with other things and it was near the start they took a while to get there ... :) anyway a few turns later it came up with the 'Do you wish to upgrade this starbase?' i thought cool, the little blue dudes must be having a bad day, so i upgraded it, but then it let me upgrade it AGAIN, i thought that it was strange, i usually send two constructors if i can to start a resource off and it normally just gives me the one upgrade, (one for starbase and one for upgrade), so i clicked done to sit back and smile smugly when i noticed it was a funny blue ...
I HAD JUST UPGRADED THE ALTARIAN MILITARY RESOURCE TWICE :D

So there seems to be a little problem, not an earth shattering one but if you target a resource with a constructor (before it is built, just raw resource, NO starbase there)and an AI beats you to it and builds one, when your constructor gets there you are still given the option to upgrade the starbase, regardless of who owns it ... :HOT:

Obscured Research Menu Between Turns Bug

This one has been around forever, and I think I just figured it out.

Normal end of turn sequence goes something like this (if news is turned on):

Report Screen
Voting Screen (if year-end)
Completed Research Screen (if completed, duh)
Research Menu
Completed Items List (covers research menu)
Individual Planet Screens

If you culture flip a planet on the same turn you complete research, it looks something like this:

Report Screen, including flip anouncement
Individual Rebel Planet Screen
Voting Screen (if year-end)
Completed Research Screen (if completed, duh)
Completed Items List (covers research menu)
Individual Planet Screens

The research menu is only seen under the completed items list -- not before the completed items list comes up. The result is you have to go back into the window to change the default research project. I set my research to complete every turn and set up for a bunch of culture flipping and it was 100% consistent through about 10 turns, including flipping 4 planets or so.

Hope this helps!

But i got the last laugh at the Altarians good fortune from the bug with the constructor / starbase :D

I put a waypoint in the sector above, sent 6x Battle hammers (hey LOL its near the start) and waited till my military strength was greater than his (backhanders , research etc) than the blue dudes constructor appeared ... i blew up the Altarians military starbase and declared war on them, moved a small fleet of three constructors over the resource then went to the diplomacy screen offered a peace treaty , he not only felt it was wise to agree but he gave me 102 credits for 26 months as well :D
Remember Evil is more than which three options to choose ...

I thought it was pretty bizarre that you could build on their starbase until I saw this:
http://www.pyroteknots.com/pix/galciv.jpg
Unfortunately when I got back from the screen shot app the game decided to automove the constructor off the enemy ship, so no save game *sigh*.

Cari: Some problems I've found in 1.13:

* Alignment-based techs (for which player lacks the alignment) still show up on the AI side of the trade table. They don't show up on player's side, but they do on the AI side. No other changes to the alignment-based techs. The AI's are still trading them, still gaining them from invasions or espionage, still trade them to player, and EVERYBODY is using and benefitting from them. (It's still broken).

* Sector Sweep misbehaves if there is a planet in the rectangular path. Works OK if the planet belongs to someone else, but if it is uncolonized, the sweeping vessel halts, and if it is player-owned, the sweeping vessel goes into orbit. (Shouldn't it go around and keep on sweeping in all cases?)

* There really ought to be some way to keep the locations of resources at player's disposal. I understand why starbases are not shown, but it is enormously frustrating on giant maps to have no method short of tedious, endless manual searching to track down resources owned by the AI's, when you have explored the space and theoretically SHOULD have such information mapped. If you don't manage to land Eyes of the Universe, this chore becomes a complete nightmare! :( My game is literally HALTED in some cases because I have to spend YEARS of game time tracking down vital resource locations before I can launch a war safely, and other similar issues. (I TRY, hard, to park a scout or drone by every resource when I find an AI starbase, but I always forget some on the biggest map sizes). Is there anything you can do to help?

* PLEASE fix freighter trading. Either disallow it entirely, or have the freighters start at the system to which they are attached. Picking up freighters right off the alien assembly lines and connecting them immediately, to the planet they just launched from (or where they were parked in orbit), is a gross exploit on the biggest maps. This rather ruins the whole trade ship aspect, in my opinion, and it strikes a serious blow to the game balance.

* Oh, and the notion that freighters get attached to the "nearest" planet is definitely not correct. The game seems to pick one system (method of selection unfathomable -- appears random) and assign that as homeworld to all freighters for the duration. If the game is indeed supposed to be attaching to the nearest system, it's not, and that would warrant attention. (Unless you scrap freighter trading altogether).

Hope you are having a pleasant end of year time. :)

Typo: (Pirates barter for their freedom) "... Once we've found it and sold it, let the go - with a stern warning..." This should read "...let them go...".

Trade Route Espionage Typo: "...By looking at who's their doing trade with..." should read "...By looking at who they're doing trade with..."

It's Jan 2193. I have yet to see any evidence that the "Creative" ability works! Still!

Amount in Treasury will not update until the "Domestic Policy" button is selected or the map clicked.

Here's an OLD bug! Their treasury is -29. Mine is 1840. Their overall Treasury Ranking: 1st.

In my Stats: Interest is -2%, Rates is +10%, Range is 50%, and Luck is no statistic. P.S. I know the stat is supposed to read Interest Rates -2%. Wrapping causes this but the statistica does not similarly wrap. There seems sufficient space available to report this on a single line so why not use it?

More Stats: Overall I'm 1st yet I have only one ranking that is first. Overall the Drengin are 4th yet they have only two Rankings that are NOT 1st. I'm sorry, this makes absolutely no sense!

Espionage (Stats): So, what is their "Soldiering" ability? Can't see it can't scroll to it.

In Planet Details I click on a completed project. I want to view the specifics of this tech. I can only cancel it. Give me a button to view the tech or initially provide more detail. No, an explanation is not available in the tech tree archives.

Reload and take a look at the technology panel. In particular the turns left for the current tech. It's wrong! This aspect of the game does not get updated when a game is loaded. Was it 93 turns or 17 (NO EXAGGERATION!)? I better increase my tech spending just to be sure...

Expenses: 6990, Dismantle 5 Dreadnaughts, the "Total Spending" (Expenses) does not update. One turn later... Expenses: 7029! In this turn Terraforming was completed, more than one half dozen constructors were completed, a Starbase is now in the influential territory of another (-5bc), and some Starbases were upgraded. As I have said before, there is something wrong here. One turn my income is +300 the next it's -200 (worst case). I would sure like to know what I'm doing wrong, nothing makes sense! It seems like others have no problem with their economy, with raising money. This has been a constant battle for me. The v1.13 Large galaxy near end game Economy stat is 237%. I am the Trade Leader. If a planet's Moral is fine I do not build "Virtual Reality", "Propganda Center", etc. I constantly struggle to reduce my fleet in order to balance my budget. Yet towards the end game for several years my Government Spending was repeatedly less than 15%. It takes forever to build anything under those circumstances. It does seem that the key is keeping Mitiary expense below 25%. However, that does not explain the economic mood swings that are constant in my civilization.

#94 Zed F similarly reported: What's with the requirement to connect to Stardock before submitting game results? I have waited at least one minute but get impatient. After task switching to Stardock then back to GalCIv I am greeted with as many as 1-dozen "1 submitted, 0 errors" message windows.

#53 Darkspire: I agree. They expand like madmen yet have no galactic aspirations?!

To All: Have not experienced any CTD's. Not one.

Wants and Needs:
I want to trade for a Galactic Achievement that is owned by a Minor Race... Why do the Carinoids need "Eyes of the Univers"? Ok don't mind me. I'm just whining. I kow I could never afford this and I'm certain someone could come up with a reason why they would want this. >:(

I want Scouts (maybe not Scouts), Survey, Starhawk, and Ranger class ships to be able to locate (easily identify) anomalies, debris, and such on the tactical map. Perhaps these could glow or flash or something on the Standard or Tactical map when one of the aforementioned ships is selected. The range at which they make these visible may be tech and experience dependent if you wish. :SURPRISED:

Where do I spend money on Counter-Espionage? I know, I don't! The point is why not? How else could I potentially block Destabilization. For that matter how do I determine if I am even the target of such? :HOT:

If they're so "Kind", so benevolent. then why are they declaring war on every minor race, all the time? I know war is thoughtful and kind, puting those less worthy species out of there miserable existence. All I'm saying is this should be a moral penalty! Perhaps I'm wrong! Perhaps Sadam's invasion of Kuwait wasn't honorable and full of good intent. Hmmm. LOL

I want to discover a Precursor Heavy Cruiser. Then maybe a Battleship... And why does a Precursor Ranger (Light Cruiser) look like a Terran Ranger? :HOT:

This ability definatly lowers the morality requirements to research alignment techs. Try it out, with creativity, you can research Xeno-Intimidation at 35% morality instead of 30.

In particular the turns left for the current tech. It's wrong!
End of quote

This is caused by the game not calculating your "free" research. It is true even after playing a couple of turns and then changing your research spending. The game always use the previous turn "free" research to estimate remaining months, not the current turn free research. I suppose after loading that "free" research is 0. I hope they fix that bug because I am a control freak who wants to spend just the right amount of money to research the next tech. ;)
