1. main difference between alignments . . .

In GC the spectrum of good to evil for players goes from Saintly, Good, Neutral, Demonic and Pure Evil respectively, I think.

I believe the use of the words Chaotic and Lawful are spin offs from the world of role playing or something . . . but as far as I can tell don't actualy describe the ethos of an AI beyond it's degree of magnitude towards the two extreams i.e. Lawful being extreamly evil/good and chaotic less so.

For instance . . . In the purest sense Lawful Evil should mirror Lawful good in many ways (Conservative, Dogmatic, Justic/Law driven cultures etc etc) . . . doesn't seem to though.

2) Do you get extra Techs depending on your alignment?

Yes! Evil alignments get Darkside, Mind Control and Life Force Techs for example. Good Alignments get Trade Centers (better way?), Galactic Pacifisim (for Starbases . . . the modules have never actually worked as far as I can tell) . . . Neutrals don't seem to get anything special . . . although I could be mistake (I don't play neutral its very difficult) . . .

Hope that helps a bit ;)

Clarification: The progression (in game) is Saintly, Chaotic Good, Neutral, Chaotic Evil, Demonic.

Chaotic is indeed taken from RPG alignments but here it basically just means you make choices mostly in line with your alignment but sometimes you don't, while Saintly/Demonic means you pretty much always choose the option for your alignment. Neutral, obviously, means you usually pick the neutral choice :)

Neutral, obviously, means you usually pick the neutral choice
End of quote

Or, that your ending society alignment shows neutral (stats tab, domestic policy screen). Mine is currently "neutral 54", and that is a come back from "demonic 01"

Yes, it -could- also mean that you just pick half evil and half good, but in that case it's a lot more likely that you'll drift toward one of the chaotics... :P

If you go very evil and get the evil tech what happens if you then take all the good choices and veere back towards neutral or even good? Do you keep the tech? Can you get teh Good tech as well?

No, there are no permanent repercussions for your alignment choices, not in that way. You can bounce back and forth along the spectrum and grab all the techs you please--the only limiting factor is how long you're willing to wait to get enough events to do it.

[Ack, vicible beat me to the punch with his much simpler answer :P]

Someone said something on one of the other threads about scoring. Do Good or Evil get higher scores?

Playing the opposite alignment of the norm seems to get higher scores . . . for example I play Pure Good and set all the AIs to Evil . . . not sure if the vice versa of this is true but it certainly seems to enhance scoring in my case . . . :)

The main advantage of playing as good is that the other good races will want to co-operate with you. (If you play as evil, the evil players will still attack you if they see a good opportunity.) Set against that, to be good you must make sacrifices in moral dilemmas.

Playing as good or evil doesn't give automatic score bonuses.

If you set all the alien races to be evil, and play as good, then the co-operative advantage is lost. It is believed that you get a score bonus for doing so. Or it could just be a bonus for setting them all as evil whatever your alignment.
