Start11 Double Icons

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a setting I missed, but my start menu icons will occasionally show duplicates on my primary monitor.  Secondary screens show the correct icons.  A reboot fixes the problem and I'm not sure how to duplicate it.  First occurrence was on 2.73 so I updated to 2.74 last week but today the issue reappeared.

Windows Info: Windows 11 Business, Version 25H2, OS build 26200.889

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

Thanks for the purge instructions.  I followed them completely but just today the double icons have reappeared on my primary monitor as before so the purge was not successful.  I did notice this time though that the double icon issue started while I had my laptop disconnected from the docking station and the multi-monitor setup.  I'll reboot and try and recreate that situation again to see if that is a trigger, though it might be a couple days before I can report back again.

Thanks!

As a test, when you see the issue appear, please try Restart Explorer.exe. See if that help remove the double icons issue.

There are few fast way to restart Explorer. One of them is as below.

Method 1: Task Manager Restart

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

  2. Go to Processes.

  3. Find Windows Explorer.

  4. Right‑click → Restart.

Hey Basj,

Just tested, and yes, restarting explorer does fix the double icons, though I suspect temporarily.  Notably, the problem occurred without me unplugging my laptop from the docking station this time, so it would seem that may not be related.

Thanks again.

Perhaps something else is causing the issue, please try Clean Boot, refer here for steps: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot. Do note that Clean Boot steps need to be done with care. Try it and report back.

Hi Basj,

Unfortunately I'm not able to perform the clean-boot steps.  I'm not able to create a new admin user (IT policy), and as the problem appears randomly every few days, waiting for the problem to appear in this mode is not practical.  Are there any log files that could be inspected?
