It feeds the crew.
Snark aside you are correct likely random reward in stock event thus a food resource in a weapons event
Ah you are assuming AI hasn't taken over all crew by the 2300-2400's.
It did with the Yor and Nyx that's why all the other races have killed it on their ships
They are smarter than the builders of the Yor
