Sad news this week...

We just found out recently that my 71 year old Mother has pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately it is located in an area of the pancreas that is difficult to treat. She has been ill since just before Thanksgiving and has hardly eatin anything since then. She's been in and out of the er from Nov. up until a week ago when doctors finally decided she should be hospitalized. They've run all kinds of tests and xrays and cat scans and biopsies. My Dad was with her yesterday when her doctor told her she would only have 6 to 12 months to live. I got there about about 3pm and the first thing out of my Mother's mouth was "Joe I'm going to die in 6 months" as she cried. My heart sank and I fought to keep it together. I'm very close to my mother and I don't think I'll ever lose that image of my mom telling me that with the fear and terror in her face. My brother came down and my sister will be here tomorrow. Anyway my mom is schedule for a pancreatic bypass surgery this coming Monday which is only being done to give her the 6 to 12 months.
It's just too soon to lose my Mom. It's hard to imagine life without her.

Jarget, I would like to express my sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time in your lives.

Please try to take advantage of the time remaining. Tell her thanks for the good times, say sorry for the times you were perhaps difficult as a kid (as most kids go through a stage in their teen years), overall let her know you love her, try to make her laugh and smile.

In short, try to ease the passing for you both by filling your minds with happy memories.

Thanks everybody for all the kind words and support.

Here's an update: My Mom came out of the surgery with flying colors. She was surrounded by friends and family when she went into surgery and when she came out of surgery. We hope to have her home in about ten days.

Her life expectancy is still only 6 - 12 months but the doctor told us last night more like 6 months.

Take those 6 months and make every moment count, Joe. Don't leave anything undone...those are the things that haunt us afterwords.
I use to think, "I hope I go quick so I wont suffer"... Now after watching my Mom die, I hope I can leave this world as complete as She did for my own children....

..There is no love greater than a Mothers!

My thoughts are with you and your family
