Long time player, first time poster: I love the updates and the content! I think the new minor faction mechanics are a great step in the right direction, but I still feel like this build isn't different enough from SOSER to merit its own game.
I just finished an 8 player game on the new named map. All unfairs, half aggressive, half random, all put on separate teams to prevent alliances (the alliances in a FFA in an entirely PVE game never really made sense to me). The unfair-randoms were all wiped by about 2h, with a tec loyalist and 2 vasari rebels (sorry the old terminology is what stuck for me) remaining. They continued to attack with reasonably large fleets from both fronts, which I liked. It seemed like the AI were not using their relationship with the minor factions, that I could detect (raids, upgrades on ships/starbases, etc), and no AI built any culture buildings.
>I look forward to the different AI strategies to actually have a chance against the aggressive's
>also looking forward to when the fleets will micro at least a little bit at the higher difficulties
>The AI at least needs to try to keep the culture at their own planets to avoid the debuffs
>they seemed to get really aggressive about building a lot of ship factories, but they don't seem to ever concede a planet and try to build up at a more rear planet or chokepoint
>I didn't watch the replay this time, but in the last build, when I did a couple AI hot seat takeovers, they were doing bizarre things with research, teching (by level) way up, building too many research stations without having a glut of economy, and not actually purchasing many of the individual techs
>one of the minor factions wiped all the pirate ships and structures, I found out at the end
>based on this one game, I did enjoy the way the minor faction mechanics were implemented, but I wonder if the max influence should increase faster with number of controlled planets, and I feel like the auctions should come a little more frequently.
- I kept running into the situation where I would buy a couple upgrades that I could hold on to, and I would have a glut to spend on auctions (maybe I would use some of the offered items more often in a PVP game).
- Also, some of the items didn't seem super useful to me, particularly the doubled crippled hull (seems outclassed by most other upgrades aside from the instant build aspect), and the ceasefire with the one faction with enormous fleet (seems they guard the couple planets close to them and not much else? I don't think the ten minutes would get my fleet to the right position / want to fight them for the couple planets they control / their other items make it worth keeping them in the game)
Love the content so far! Hope there's more new mechanics, new / different ships / more ship abilities. Otherwise love the balance among the factions, it feels like I can really use all of them in this one. Looking forward to the Advent!
