Something I have wanted since Sins 1, and hope they still can add to 2, is iconography at zoom out. Basically, zoomed in you see models. Zoom out and the models get replaced by icons so you can still see what is happening and select and everything WHILE ZOOMED OUT. Zoom out even farther and get fleet icons instead of unit icons (assuming fleet formation is put back in). This way rather than zooming out and then in over and over, you can survey and control the battlespace as a whole. We have tiny outlines right now, but they rapidly themselves become points on the map, hard to see and hard to select.
Basically like Supreme Commander. Look at how readable the fully zoomed out map is in the first screen shot here (you wouldn't play that far zoomed out generally but you can play with significant zoom out and not have to zoom in constantly to select and give order accurately). I want that for Sins. But with a third level since we can can zoom out much farther. This way we can maneuver effectively flanking and such without getting dizzy from the zooming. and it makes long distance moves easier since you can select entire fleets in one click instead of having to zoom in to drag-select.
