mp3 player on desktop

I'm trying to get winamp 2 to work on my desktop. However, it won't display track lengths, load playlists or change the volume.

It basically only lets me play, pause, and skip to the next song. How can I get these other features to work with winamp?

Why not use DX Player - it does all you ask.

I was using dxplayer previously, and yes all that stuff works in it. Unfortunately, the player is not very good at all. The shuffle command is crappy, it doesn't play some of my mp3s and it lists incorrect time lengths on many songs. That's why I want to switch to winamp or windows media player but all of the commands I want on my desktop won't work with those. Can anyone help me?

If you had problems with VBR MP3s then that was fixed in version 1.00d, AFAIK. I'll look at the duration. The shuffle command works like it was intended. There are many ways to do that. It is not like how WA does it, but the advantage of the OM method is that it won't play the same songs twice by accident. Sorry to hear that you don't like that.

You can use WinAmp with DXPlayer. Just remove ObjectMedia and DXPlayer will control the basic functions of WinAmp2. But not all DXPlayer features are supported using WA. Maybe when the specifications of WA5 are published that we consider support for that version.
