I agree. I think that Sins 2 does not need to add any new ships, but a thorough redesign of most or even all of them is to be expected in a sequel. However, existing designs should be changed only if the newer design would be better. No need to change something good into something ugly simply so that it is different from its previous incarnation.
I do hope that Sins 2 will have all of the ships of the original Sins, or if not all of the types then the rest could be added in expansions, so that in the end Sins 2 has the same types of ships as Sins 1.
There is room for more structures, though. It would be great is each faction could have two different starbases to choose from instead of one. It would also be great if each faction could have at least one unique structure that the other two factions do not get that would be tailored to their lore and play style.
Artifacts could also use a touch-up. In my opinion, given that they are so rare, they should be MUCH more powerful. It would be really cool if instead of just appearing as a drawing in the research tree, they would have a 3D model that you could swivel around to look at and admire, like items in Skyrim.
Now to propose some really big changes for Sins 2.
1. A planet terraforming tech for the Advent in the middle of the tech tree, for the TEC late in the tree, and for the
Vasari Rebels at the end. Assuming that the subfactions are preserved from Rebellion, the Advent Loyalists should get the tech first, then the Advent Rebels, then the TEC Loyalists, then the TEC Rebels, and finally the Vasari Rebels. The Vasari Loyalists should not have one because it would not fit their lore and they get Stripped to the Core. However, the VR want to cooperate with the other races, and not run crazily out of the universe like the VL, so it makes sense that they get the tech, but very late because it is a very new development. Better yet, make it so that the VR only have access to it if they have a special Terraforming Pact with an Advent or TEC player.
The terraforming would change one planet type into a different one by player choice, unless the planet is an asteroid, in which case it must go through the Dwarf Planet stage before turning into any other planet type. From a Terran, Ice, Desert, or Volcanic planet it can turn into another planet type. So it would be possible, with a lot of resources and time, to turn an Ice planet into a Terran or vice versa.
Wait. That is a really bad idea. That would mean that by the end of the game there would only be Desert and Terran planets. Never mind about that. Unless someone else has a great idea about how to do terraforming.
2. A view from inside your ships. This would mean whole 3D bridges and cockpits would need to be designed, but it would greatly enhance the viewing experience of a battle. This would be awesome if it was from a fighter or bomber or from the bridge of a capital ship or titan or frigate. Really, I don't think that they would make an interior for every ship, so just for the fighters and bombers would be fine. Then you could see them zip around combat through the view of the pilot, or in the case of the Advent, the Anima. When the strike craft died, it would return you back to commanding view, and while in the cockpit there would be a button to switch views. When you would select a squadron, in addition to the normal buttons there would be a cockpit view button. If the interiors were detailed and suited to each race that would be awesome too.
There was another one but I forgot it while typing the other two points so I suppose it will have to wait until later.
Wow. I haven't typed this much about anything since my collector's edition thread.
