Skilled games Vs Regular games

Lets start a policy that unless the game has skilled in the title, we should not boot for anyone.

Also dont  rehost just so you can change the title cause that would be defeating the spirit of the policy

To all those who have been booted, create your own game. With alloy enabled (default setting) anyone can host.

He's speaking of games which declare themselves as skilled.  Obviously the determination of who is a skilled player is subjective, and may lead to inconsistant boots, but a game is either declared as skilled or it isn't.  That much is very objective.

Personally, I'm tired of the conflicting expectations.  I had a 5v5 unexpectedly fill up instantly last night (given how late it was, it took me off guard) and suddenly had three or four people asking to get in and just as many people whispering me to suggest who to boot.  On the one hand, you have people who are friends and want to play together, on the other hand it's not entirely fair to boot people.

I personally don't mind booting smurfs who are being flippant about who they are.  If someone says they're a newbie, that's fine by me, but refusing to answer my questions is usually grounds for a boot.

problem is "skilled" is relative

Actually, he is right. Something along the lines of 200+ games would probably be a better name to give to these matches

Or 100+ wins, or whatever. Something along those lines.

I almost always get admitted into skilled games, and I don't even have 100 games yet (mind you, I'm running a 75% win average).

Determining whether someone is "skilled" or not is highly subjective, but the best litmus test is to play against them and see how they perform.  I've seen people with very few games get vouched for and that's usually good enough for most hosts.

Well I liked to play both. First of all, Playing noob game are fun becuause theres always one prick who thinks he can kick my ass being a noob, but when I come back with one amazing kick ass fleet, the only words i hear him saying is........................FEED ME! and 'you are a smurf' LOL!

Problem with skilled games is that unless, sire or cauis is in there, i cant trash talk :(

I agree with JJ and Amish 100%.  Just try what they are suggesting for God's sake, instead of naysaying everything that comes down the pipe.

I don't think there should be much practical disagreement about what is "skilled."  Not to imply that the world revolves around clans, but if A) you are in one of the major clans, or B ) you can beat or hold your own against someone in a major clan, then you are "skilled."  Does that sound like a good working definition?

Also, if it isn't a skilled game, but you will be booting people for friends or "famous" people who show up, can we agree to do one of three things that shouldn't be difficult to do?  1) put "friends" in the title, 2) make it a "friends only" game, or 3) password protect the game.  If 2 and 3 are impractial for a variety of reasons, surely we can all agree to do 1?

i agree with this completely. though i dont know if i could get in i just have barely over 200 games  :( and only 160 wins or so.

I like this suggestion whether it is the subjective "skilled" or a set number of games/wins.  The main plus I see to this, from the viewpoint of somebody still a bit new, is that the host informs me ahead of time that I may get booted.  If I join a game labeled "skilled" with my 23 game record and get booted because nobody is willing to vouch for me I'm OK with that.  It still sucks, but at least I knew I was taking the risk.  If I get booted from a generic game it catches me off guard and pisses me off far more.

2 cents from one of those likely to be excluded.

Don't even know how good a "skilled" person is.

Some people pretend they are so good or something. But..... not at all.

It really is a great idea not to boot people from normal games. I'm new and I have been kicked out multiple times in various games.

The problem is that you don't get kicked out instanty, but you wait for 10 min until the game fills up, then people trash-talk for another 10 min until a new buddy joins the channel and the booting starts. The problem essentially is that I repeatedly find myself waiting for a long time in games just to be booted. This is really frustrating and if I tell this in the channel afterwards they say something in the sense of "well these are my buddies and u'r a noob".

I usually get booted for people you would probably call skilled - so please tell this idea to your buddies. Maybe I'll start a blacklist of booters instead of quitting sins already.

My advice to you would to be start playing in the smaller games like 2v2's and 3v3's.  Rarely do people get booted from these and the skill/competition level is lower as well.  I sometimes see the same "less skilled" people join big games again and again, and wonder what they are getting out of being constantly rushed off the face of the earth.

While I don't agree with booting anyone but smurfs and people who go AFK, if you are constantly getting booted maybe you need to take a step back and ask yourself if there is a better decision you can make as an individual.

There is also nothing wrong with asking in the chat lobby if someone who has been playing longer can help you.  I help new players all the time in games against the computer.

And if all else fails, make an name like Army of Scouts, Noob Hammer, Marza Rush2u, etc.  Win 3 games on a super small map with an easy comp, make a game then leave it (having a 4 games, 3 wins record) and pretend to be a smurf.

I've already been accused of being the smurf of someone with a nice name because I made fun of guys after beating them up in an unintentional 4vs5 (it was meant friendly and we lost it overall). I'm pretty sure it's not skill that makes people act disrespectful towards me (and others) but the number of games played. I've never been called a noob by anyone except me, and I like people to assume that really a noob kicked their ass. Maybe that's what they fear and the real reason for booting? And for smurfing? Booters and smurfs are cowards! (yeah that's a joke)

My point is again, that this is an extremely bad manner you (as a community) have. I don't know this or anything similar from other games.

This really ain't a bad community IMO, but I can only compare it the Starcraft/Broodwars too.  In Starcraft you could have a screen shot of a person saying, "F*ck you and F*ck Blizzard I will hack if I want and there is nothing they can do about it", and sure enough there was nothing Blizzard would do about it.  Oh yeah, also there was so much hacking going on that it was basically impossible to be elite without doing it yourself.  And it was quite common to see people booted from games for not having good records.

Also if you were talking trash then you really have no leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about getting booted from a game.  Just because you thought it was in good spirits doesn't mean that other people took it that way.

how good is a skilled player? i know johnjames has played a million games but who else is as skilled as him. star player?

Star player is pretty good, I havent played with him enough to say hes that kind of good. I can say that Raging Amish and Tyr are on that level, followed closely by most of the other DT guys and a couple of the powerhouse BIA players like Greyfox, Mindseye, Reborn(m.i.a?). I havent played anyone who is on JJs level that hasnt been gobbled up by a clan, but there a couple guys who arent clanners that can tangle with the guys mentioned above. There a a couple of different player skill track lists by various DT members (Star player, Howthe?, Raging Amish) which can give you a better idea of where people stand, they havent been updated in awhile, but theyre still useful in getting to know what you're facing if you're against them.
