Entrenchment Question

New Player - Easier to Learn?

I purchased Sins a long time ago but never got into it since I am not such a RTS person. I always would get stuck right at the beginning of a game. At this point I am bascally waiting for Elemental (laugh) but wast to give Sins another shot.

Do you all thnk that Entrenchment would make it easier to learn to play or harder?

Thx!

um.....both

easier in the fact it allows you to turtle a lot better (starbases are great that way) and learn things at your own pace

but harder in the fact that there are more options and tricks to divine

As far as singleplayer goes, Entrenchment definitely made things easier.  The AI was improved in some respects, but its biggest problem remains the same: it's still very bad at taking down heavily fortified planets, and starbases made it even more difficult to do so.  As a result, it's not uncommon to see an AI continually banging its head against a wall and making no progress whatsoever (provided you built your defenses well).

The basics are pretty much unchanged, starbase just added more tools to the toolbox.  The starbases are the really big ones, and like anything there's something to learn and master there, but it's not going to change the foundation of the game (though it does change a lot of the strategies you will use).

I'm downloading Sins of a Solar Empire. I had tried the demo a long time ago but never got a chance to pick this up so with the current sale, I'm going to download it.

Now my question regarding the expansion. As a first time player, it is better to start off with or without the expansion?

there is nothing you will miss by getting entrenchment so feel free

Thank you for the link.

I think I'm going to play without the expansion for the first week or so to get my bearings then I'll download the expansion.

Well I see Entrenchement at 10$. Is that the regular price? Vanilla is currently on sale for 10$ which is why I jumped on it. :)
