What don't you want to see in a GalCiv expansion?

I am curious about what you DO NOT Want in a Galciv expansion (and hopefully someone from Stardock will read this thread).

I do not want the usual offering of:
- more units
- more races
- more aggressive AI
- more eyecandy

My reason is that these things are essentially more of the same. I don't really care if there are 5 other majors or 6. There are already plenty of units. The AI is already more aggressive than I like. Eyecandy is not important, I want plain easily identifiable stuff that is not actually ugly. Put bluntly, I would not be prepared to pay the usual expansion pack price of A$70 (I think about US$35?) for these things.

I would rather the developers and programmers spent their time further developing the game. (I am not yet sure what I do want in an XP, haven't had the game long enough. I want a map editor though.)

Your thoughts? :)

hmmmm so basically you want the game developed more as long as that doesn't involve units, AI, graphics, or races and offer no clue as to what you mean by developed more. Sounds like you want a full blown sequel instead of a free xpack. Good luck.

Also, given that the expansion pack is free, pretty much your entire basis for criticism goes out the window.

Plus, we already know we're getting more eyecandy and new units so I guess you'd better be prepared for disappointment.

Yes, Darkhold. "Sequel" would be a better term than expansion pack, I couldn't think think of a better term.

I have no objection to some extra units and eyecandy but all too often that is about all one gets in a sequel so not really worth the money.

I am not sure exactly what I would want yet. I have some ideas about expanded diplomatic options, ability to set the aggression level of a game (as you could in Ascendancy), perhaps more ability to set various AI advantages and disadvantages (as you could in Imperialism 2). These are the sort of enhancements that I would gladly pay for.

Keeping to the thread topic - What I do not want to see is:

Too many additions to the expansion game at once without fixing the known issues/bugs. The expansion bugs will then get fixed but the existing ones could get delayed. Eg. Bonus to ship quality when you colonise a planet not working, invisible ships appearing during gameplay etc. - But...How can I say I do not want to see invisible ships, when they are already invisible ! :)

I do not want to see a new scoring system but it does not update previosly submitted scores in the metaverse.

Also I do not want to see an even bigger galaxy enabled without better ways to handle ship management and zoom options on the main screen. Eg. We need muster points etc enabled for fleets first.

Finally I do no want to see a game that is sooooo addictive that I loose completely my real life, family and day job :)

Pray for them to screw the XPack, then ;).

I don't want the ai to be unable to use intelligently the new features (bombers or whatever new units come along).

Given Stardocks track record of quality service to their customers, I doubt they would charge $35 for an expansion pack to a game they put out for $39.99 (thats in United States buckaroos.) Especially after mentioning that it would be FREE. However, I would not put it past Brad to include Great Winged Goat Persons just to vex me.

- more units
Why not I think there at least is something needed between Overlord and Excalibur...

But I definetly don't want to see bombers in that game... I think that would kinda ruin the balance of warfare...

- more races
I'd like to see more races, yes... but only if they'r major! I do not like minors at all... I could even say: I don't want minors in the game!
Maybe they could give us an option turn them off...

- more aggressive AI
As long as you can easyly adjust their agression by their morality all is well... Pure Evils shall be agressive while Pure Goods shall not.

- more eyecandy
Why not? As long as it does not slow down the game I think there's nothing wrong about eyecandy...
