Mod Idea

Hello everyone.

I have an interesting race that I'd like to introduce to SoaSE, but I have no knowledge of modeling.  The ideas are all in my head, with a few ship ideas drawn on paper.  If anyone out there is interested in helping me out it'd be greatly appreciated!

Step 1: Get hold of the text-file .entity files, and learn how they are made up. It's not difficult, and you can get your head around the concept pretty quickly.

Step 2: Get hold of Blender, and try to learn it. This really is the hardest part - modeling is not something learned overnight, but it's by far the most importaint. The good news is, once you've started to master the art, you'll find it useful in a lot more places than just Sins. :)

Step 3: Once you've got those two, the documentation is a good start. Further, if you're at that level of competency, folks like DANMAN are likely to cheerfully give you a hand as required. :)

Although you aren't doing this for a living but on your free time, I find using a tablet is great, once you are finished with the model, you will be wanting to create a mesh

As for tech, look thru all three races for idea. I know its bad karma thinking that you would fail, but the hard truth is you will. Don't worry about failing, usually for your first mod, it probably will crash and burn, but you would know what is possible.

Thank you for the information ReiverTA.  I have plenty of free time which I get paid for - love being in the military B)

 

Anywho, I will study this Blender Wiki guide at work, and also work on the story of this new race.  I will get in touch with other modders for ideas.

I would b willing to aid in modeling... I use XSI, but I'm trying to learn blender as well.. I am also in the process of learning how to skin, but I would b willing to help nonetheless... I am also proficient in coding...  Just know that I am working on my own mod...  I started it a year ago and stopped for about six months so I may as well finish (mainly bc of time and school...)

Basically, if you want my help, just PM me... If not, oh well..

I do have some information, however it is still incomplete - hence why it would require a team.  I have a few ideas for abilities, but I'd like to make everything as balanced as possible to fit in well with TEC, Advent, and Vasari.

The objective of this mod is to create a complete new "race" that will still be balanced with the TEC, Advent, and Vasari.

The "race's" name: The Republic

I have already started working on the background of how the Republic was formed and how it emerged as an adversary to the other races. (I have a paper for uni due this week, so I may push the background out on friday.)  I have ship names available along with their type.  This new race only has 4 capital ships.  I am thinking to balance it out, the weaponry on their ships will be a tad stronger, but not a lot.  The Republic (like the Advent) focus highly on strike craft numbers for superiority in combat.  They have stong shields, but weak armor and ship health. 

All the ships in their arsenal have a bird-like design along with bird-like names.
Ex.: Aquila Heavy Carrier - Capital Ship

I've yet to think of how to involve Entrenchment into this mod - but that is something we can work on.
