Game data problem?

My friend and I have been carrying on a great MP game for about a month now in which we were both Advent locked allies. About a week ago we noticed some wierd occurences, such as getting notices of allied caps dying when they had actually leveled up. Today it got even wierder. His map showed that my whole empire had been taken over by an empire that from my view had been decimated by me (all they had left was one 'roid). He then said where I wanted him to send his fairly large fleet, and I laughed because I only saw literally about 5 ships that he owned. I told him to come help me out with a small-medium enemy fleet, and from what he said it was a huge fleet (despite me not seeing any of his ships there). What was going on? It's like we had 2 totally different copies of the match.

We both took some screens of it to compare.

My system overview (I'm blue, he's red)

My endgame report (planets owned)

What do you think happened? Faulty internet? Game data isolation (is that possible?)?

Sounds like a desync to me. I've had multiplayer games desync without getting any sort of error warning.

wonder if they ever managed to isolate all the DNG and NDNG code

Yeah that sounds about right. Does the other PC stop comminucating with yours when it desyncs? It was like our ally just stopped doing anything. Although, he was able to give me credits and see my pings, and we could chat. It's too bad, that was a fun game.
