1) Tough pick between the Argonev and Transcendia. Argonev edges out on looks.

2) Obviously, the Orkulus is the best for offense since it moves, and deals extra damage against buildings. It doesn't have abilities that screw with masses of ships, but it can keep itself alive either with the deflector shield, or debris-suck-repair. This helps it on the defense as well, but I think the Transcendia is a bit better at it. It can hit the entire enemy fleet with the meteor, which is a pretty frequent cast and deals good damage. It also has an ability that disables all engines/movement of a group of ships and has a very long reach, so it can hold a bunch of ships out of their normal firing range but within the starbase's. That also screws with anything that requires direct facing, since the ships just kinda twirl around with disabled engines. The Argonev wins best support, since it can build ships and provide repairs (and I think AM?) to nearby ships.

3) For pure firepower, the Orkulus with its third weapons upgrade that grants it +30% damage. It also has the highest base hull and shield hp because it has 4 structure upgrades, but between the 3 weapon and 4 of those, it only has one slot free for utility, which leaves it more limited in that regard. By contrast, the Transcendia can max out weapons, armor, meteor, and get a rank of mass disorient.

Of course, these are just my opinions, I'm not stating them as fact (except 3), in any case) ;)

7.5 Hull repiar for every ship, and 2.5 antimater for the first upgrade, then 15% repair to everyship and 5? I think anti-matter Combine it with a few shield ships and your star base would never loose sheilds. - for the Tec.

But yeah, I've always been a tec lover. Im a sicko i know :P

Had a 1 on 1 yesterday with my friend and his maxed level orkulus only won by a 5000 or so vs my tec starbase :P if i had a shield ship i'd of won for sure.

Nice to know about the advent starbase, havent played with them recently.

Transcencia meteor showers are bomb. Supported by hangars, repair bays, mines, a PJI, and a regenerator, I've seen my starbase stop some unbelievably large fleets. Every time they would jump in I'd go "oh no ... THIS time I'll need to come to support" and next thing you know the fleet is retreating through my mines and a single badly damaged transport escapes. Transcencia just locks down an enemy fleet and slaughters it - a beautiful thing.

I've only used Final Judgement once - the delay to get it is so long it can only really be justified when you're in a well on the opposite end of a super-upgraded Argonev. But it definitely does the trick.

The Argonev for the win...

Played the the new release yesterday and the new researchable upgrades for Starbases are amazing. I got my fully upgraded argonev up to 20k+ hp, and it had 14 squadrons. It took out a sizeable Advent fleet with NO trouble. It was great, they hammered at the starbase long enough for me to build a mine field in their retreat path. Once they lost their 4th capitol ship (all were lvl 4+), their fleet was decemated trying to retreat!

i just wonder if that heated debate about them moving got kinda "settled" with the love the sb got in the beta changes

I hope so! But a lot of folks wanted them to move just because the Vasari moves, and they wanted more of a super-capital than a starbase. ;) So those probably still wouldn't be satisfied, but those who were hoping for increased starbase performance are hopefully happier now!

Advent still cannot defend planet from bombardment

"...the Transcendia can max out weapons, armor, meteor, and get a rank of mass disorient."

The second level of meteor actually does something other than just add antimatter?

Well, it's supposed to :P But yes, I've also noticed that the damage displayed stays at 500, even though it's supposed to go up to 750. I'll check the files for the ability tonight and see.

I was the author of one of the "why starbases should move" threads - I wasn't looking for super-capitals but I did think the Vasari movement gave it too much of a defensive edge. I am completely content with how the game is balanced now - Advent are my favorite faction again! Woohoo!

LHDAllaxul: as far as I can tell, the benefit of 2nd level meteor is extended range (from 4000 to 6000).  This is really potent because the ability doesn't have a max target count. Been awhile since I took geography, but I think a circle with a radius of 6000 has at least twice the area of a circle with a radius of 4000. In other words: awesome.

Too bad you can't drop meteors on those pesky Ogrevs (range 9800). : p
