ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

Your approach of playing for fun instead of for score is 'correct' as well. You will last longer this way. :)

I wouldn't be able to guess from personal experience as I skipped some levels. But seeing how Staffa's maso gigantic only scored about double CM's calkwalk gigantic, my guess would be:

Calkwalk x0.8
Easy x0.85
Beginner x0.9
Simple x0.95
Normal x1.0
Challenging x1.1
Tough x1.2
Painful x1.3
Crippling x1.4
Maso x1.5

My ideal would be:

Calkwalk x0.1
Easy x0.25
Beginner x0.5
Simple x0.75
Normal x1.0
Challenging x1.5
Tough x2.0
Painful x2.5
Crippling x3
Maso x5

Awsome! Thanks RayChua . . . I'd have to agree with your 'ideal' model too (well balanced (gives beginners a fair ammont of positive reinforcement too) and makes reward worth the extra effort).

Would you mind if I cut and pasted it into the expansion suggestions thread? Giving credit where its due off-course. The recoding couldn't be that difficult, and it would create a lot more room in the ladder list . . . :D

Sure go ahead, Cotal. But I wouldn't be too hopeful of another scoring system change. Brad seem to have indicated that we have seen the last of it.

This was been a test of the new Survey Ship of Doom Anti-Anzac ECM device. It seems to have diverted the Drop Bears, but not sheep.

Hmmm... perhaps, I should try adding pictures of Misty Hymen...

RED ALERT!!! RED ALERT!!! There's an ANZAC being held away from his computer - but Drop Bear, we'll have to see that pretty blue flag with the white stars beside your name before we mobilise the troops.....

It's the real McCoy! Hi Drop Bear, take care and let your 'butt' beware! For these folks run a 'tight' ship, and 'incontinence' will not be tolerated . . . LOL

All that subliminal cryptology I did at the academy has finaly found a use . . .

Re 'confiscation and deprevation from your PC' . . .

Mmmm, All I can say is try a different aproach with your spouse. Be 'Brazen' about it!

Wasn't it 'Confucious' who said something like . . .

"I'm settin' up my 'puter! So let the world be damed!"

And after all does not the good book also say . . .

"Me thinks, me should hop on my PC, chop chop!"

And did not the great thinker and artist of our modern age John Lenon (may he rest in peace) say . . .

"Yoko! Get oft mee com' put'ter!"

And just as a final thought . . . e

Actualy (if you'd pardon the expression) None of those quotes are . . . well you know . .. verifiable,
butt the point remains!

Well I will actually be submitting a game score today! Just finshing a gigantic game (last 2 empires down to a couple of systems each) for military victory. Would have finsihed last night but as anyone who knows me will attest..I need my beauty sleep.

SWG opens today so will be giving that a try this weekend.

L0L that win changed me from neutral to chaotic good.

Managed to go white early on, even though I took all the PQ events as evil /shrug

Fortunately, my partner works on Saturdays, so whilst I'm supposed to be packing the kitchenwear, guess what? Hehe.

Space Wombat: I was sort of thinking I would stay away from the empires for a couple of weeks until I purged the irrational competitiveness from my gaming. Then I was gonna re-join. Although I am a big fantasy reader, and I do so love pirates.

After everyone's strategy postings, mine looks lame. My early game on small maps is really obvious. Search out the minor civs ASAP and trade techs for money. That enables me to keep my research spending high so that I can continue to trade techs with them, and also afford to build factories (or whatever they are called- Fusion reactors?). Eventually I suck the minor civs dry and by then, I should be doing trade with the major civs.

Staffa's strategies are so much more developed though, that everyone should print his posts and then we can have question and answer sessions. I'm thinking something like:

Coordinator: It is post-industrial and colonisation is at 90% complete. The Torians are trading with the Yor and the Altarians, but have contiguous borders with you and the Drengin. The Drengin are Pure Good and you are Chaotic Good, but you will soon be Chaotic Evil. If the Torians are allied with the Drengins but hate the Yor, who are allied to the Arceans and the Arceans trade with you, who should you next attack and why?

Space Wombat: "Um, ah...."
Quack: "Just give all of 'em beers :D "
Cotal: "Wow, this reminds me of ...."
Coordinator: "Cotal, keep on the point"
RayChua: "Well, I've found that in a similar situation that if I reduce my GDP to at least 22% of pre-colonisation levels the post-industrial Altarians will..."
Coordinator: "RayChua, this is the intermediate class, you want the next thread"
Pirate: "Ar, avast ya mateys..."
Coordinator: "That's it, lets go to our new secret closed website where we can continue our lessons in complete solitude"

;)

Space Wombat: Can I talk to you about the hairy-arsed Dropbear campaign? I now have disturbing images every time I see my new name. ;p

can we get the White council to transfigure our drop bears to Fat Arse "space" Wombats :)

ALL HAIL FATSO - THE BATTLER'S PRINCE!

Please note - if hairy-arsed drop-bears scare you, you shouldn't look at this picture...

Hey you guys...at least give me a bit of credit for creativity, for Christ's sake! You may have come across my plans for Empire assimilation in various threads - I tried to use a selection of native animals to spread our ANZAC nanovirus to GROSS, White Council and MWC. Just jump right in and spread the ANZAC goodness to all those other Empires anyway you can.

Chris: good to see you around, and I guess I'll wait for you to get this competitive thing our of your system...but I detect a certain GROSS leaning in your posts...this can only lead to the dark side...search your feelings, you know you are truly ANZAC...

I also decided after my effort that I am NOT WORTHY to post strategies...but I am going to plug on at lower levels trying to learn to play better. In all seriousness, I can follow the 'cookie-cutter' instructions given by the heavyweights, but I find I don't learn the nuances this way. I tend to lift the difficulty level, run into trouble, and then drop back again to reanalyse my play style. I think it was RayChua who noted that the current Metaverse scoring rewards commitment (ie just playing lots of games) rather than skill (being a genius). Thank God for that - sums me up perfectly: no skill, all commitment!

Quack: absolutely sensational! Although now I'm not sure if I want the wombat as the poster boy for our campaign....I keep checking the size of my arse in the mirror....

Great scoring from Kiwi Greg (welcome back) and Slitherin (are you really gone?)!!

Have a good weekend, people ;)

Dark side is in the eye of the beholder. History is written by the victor. Once we win, we'll be the good guys. :)

Hey SW you could alway send in the numbats

Bah. Dark side. Sheesh. Every real beer drinker knows that dark is better. Forget what Yoda says. If beer determined alignment, how many of you folks would make the goody two shoes light beer list? :)

I have an admission to make . . .

Just lately, Early in the game I've been embracing 'naughtiness!' You know . . . to get a solid start (killing off whole spiecies, enslave primitives, get in with the wrong crowd etc), later on (after I've got a foot hold or strangle hold depending on how you want to look at it) I start acting all nice . . .

It's all a sham, I'm so ashamed!

Butt seriously (kinda), shouldn't the game remember how much of an arsehole I was being earlier on? :)

Cotal 445: I sorta agree. Like Civ3 where if you break agreements or act treacherously, the other civs never fully trust you again. So once evil, you shouldn't be able to climb back to Pure Good.
And how can you stand to have that smiley face next to your sparklie badges? I just wanna punch it. ;)

Space Wombat: I LOVED your campaigns of native fauna. But maybe use a hairless-arsed dropbear every now and then. I've been clippering some today out the back ready to go.
Pontius: now that makes sense. The alignments are a fun part of the game. But a backstabbing civ (or a trustworthy one) should have repercussions as well. Maybe for Galciv 2 ?

"I've been clippering some today out the back ready to go."

lol, I just imagined the next episode of "Australian Story"...

Interviewing a working-class joe in a singlet:

"Well, I used to shear sheep, I did. Me dad did it, and his dad, and, well, you get the idea. But then the government took all our sheep away! Some classified bs or something, I dunno. I reckon they're just against us honest blokes, always have been.

I tried starting other businesses for a while, but I didn't get nowhere. The army wouldn't even hire me to shave recruits' hair off. But then one of the canberra suits came back with an offer...

They's vicious little buggers, them drop-bears are. They'll rip your head off and use it for ten-pin bowling before you can say "Strewth!". But the diggers capture them, then they bring them here and I give their asses a fine number 1 shave. They don't even keep the fur I shave off! Ah, I get paid well enough, I don't really give a toss. It's probably some european thing."

:p

"I think you should really have two different allignments.
1. A trustworthiness scale.
2. A ruthlessness scale."

That'd be cool, as long as they both started at neutral. You shouldn't get the best reputation until you make some treaties and stick by them for a long time.

Cotal...you're a baaaaaad girl....I think the issue is: what does the GAME do about you? At least the tech tree knows - only some are available depending on alignment, isn't that right? Surely alignment should bar you from alliances, or even trade, with opposing civs? Should it be harsher - no chance of redemption?

Chris: your new creatures sound good. What shall we call them? Clipped bears...no...nude bears? The Nude Bear Attack? It's the NBA - I love this game!

End of quote

You will need some defensive creatures as well. Maybe bomb sniffing achidna to root around and dig out any nasty hidden dangers such as explosives and infiltrators. Some guard casuary to run down intruders. You know, stuff like that.
