ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

ANZAC Empire, 'Bridging the Ditch' Thread

Yes Well... *cough* I was a little tired of posting on the Aussie Empire thread. ;)

*Intentionally cheesy opening Address*

So gather round all you ANZAC Citizens, Lend Me Your Ears... and your games, Forget whether your accent is more nasally than your neighbours and Post those Gigantic Games on Masochistic Difficulty! *pause for applause* Now Begone and play Galactic Civilizations till you starve, then play some more! Think GalCiv, Dream GalCiv, (Breath GalCiv?) ...Be THE GalCiv! and return only when you have defeated the evil intergalactic minions that plague us and halt our advance up the metaverse board.

*cough*

Yup, Let's beat em Guys.

Yeah, it was just a bug, that's all. We don't have a secret weapon to dominate the universe, no sir!

(quack secretly pencils in "Galactic Domination Day" on his calendar...)

Geez...I got off to a good start, then watched as the Drengin war machine started to take off - those red lines on pop and mil heading skyward. Why should I do all the dirty work? I convince the Torians to attack the Drengin, thinking to whittle them down until I can build up. The Torians have such a good time, they not only wipe out the Drengins but toast the Arceans and assimilate the Altarians in the process. The Torians end up with 80% of the galaxy then casually inform me I no longer need to understand the meaning of the word "free".....and it was all my fault in the first place! DAMN this game....

Can we talk a little strategy? What are ANZACs using for government and how are you spending your ten points? I tend to use the Govt with Mil and Soc +20, then use the 10 pts on pop and res bonus - just so I've got some advantage in each major area. Help a poor muddle-headed wonbat.....

I tend to be a diplo-eco whore. just using my pickes to max these two and then rush to diplo translators... tech swapping seems to be a lot better now then before.

Can someone give my a strat for beyond human, only victory that I haven't gotten yet.

Strategy for tech victory. Simple. Here is an oversimplified view. First, turn off culture victory. We wouldn't want to rain on our tech parade by taking over the galaxy too soon. Second, get in a superior position where you cannot be effectively attacked by the other guys. Be nice to them after taking enough ground to be the top dog, trade a lot to get on their good side, and have a better military. Then, once in that superior position, slowly start upping the research percentage as you need less constructors and military ships. Keep social at the minimum you need to get buildings moving along. With a good position, good military power, trade routes, and decent relations, one should be able to simply research in peace until you get to the top. You can hasten the journey a bit by tech trading. Afterall, every tech you trade is one less to research yourself. Third, and most importantly, leave one corner off limits for cultural influence. If the last major civ flips when culture victory is disabled, it will be a military victory instead. Never let that corner be in danger from your culture. Keep that influence a couple of sectors away.

To summarize:

Get 51% of the galaxy by any means possible
Maintain a strong military
Establish good relations with trade routes
Trade tech to minimize your own investment
Declare a corner hands off for influence
Research like crazy until victory.

Hey, do you guys have a forum for these discussions? 200+ messages is a pain to wade through. Let me know if you want one. You can have sub-forums and you and whoever you designate are moderators of them. Oh yeah, also you can have private forums for only those you designate to see. Let me know if you are interested or not. Thanks.

Charge the tower!!!! Arrrrrgh Find the halflings. Arrrrrgh Find the halflings!!!! The tower has been taken, the white council has fallen and G.R.O.S.S. is now on top of the metaverse. Time for Dread Pirate Pontius to retire.

Yep: well done Friend Josh! You must have been pounding Galciv to death! I've been away for the long weekend so haven't read all the posts yet or looked at where everyone is. I have noticed we are above MWC again. And poor Ralegh submitted an Alliance victory (small map) which would seemingly have lowered his score! Check ya all later.

Bump!

I found this on the third page... what have we been doing? Drinking too much over the Queen's Birthday weekend?

All right ANZACS, my prediction is you will take the Euros by next week, so make it happen!
As far as the great wizards go (us) and "grand master 'RayChua' flash" goes, we will be floating in and out, but 'score isn't why we play'...of course it still feels good to be #3 in the world!! :D

Slitherin, REALLY...that would be unconscionable. (*But then looks furtively around* and thinks: Hmm, now do I have any unsubmitted games...oh yes :D ).

Naughty naughty, Slitherin.

Upgrading from 1.044 to 1.05 is acceptable as 1.044 is buggy score-wise but earlier versions should be a no-no.

Hey Slitherin - does this mean you've decided to keep plugging on? Hope so (although I'm not going to take up your advice ;) ). Must admit I have left GC alone for a few days.

Scores still seem to be in flux and there looks to be a problem with 1.05 - maybe no one should upgrade until clarified?

Space Wombat, scoring should be alright but the Governors are on strike. You can still play without governors if you wish.
I've become too addicted to governors. I can't remember how I used to play games like this without them :)
Don't get too enGROSSed with the scores. ;)

Besides, if you friendly folks catch up, we will need something else to fight over. I mean, losing some of your favorite territory and then having the beer looted? What could be lower...
RayChua - thanks for that advice; I'll upgrade (too dumb to master the game, let alone the govs - doesn't make any diff to me)

Quack - awesome work on that thread re the AI (you really ARE a Comp Sci guy) - ask Frogboy for a job at Stardock!

Besides, if you friendly folks catch up, we will need something else to fight over.
End of quote

Gerakken - name your booty, dude......

Slitherin - good on ya...you've inspired me to go back and try and win on normal..clicking those AIs from sub-normal to normal usually ends up with me on toast (I think the sub-normal label refers to me, not the AI....)

Imagine that. Going to see the guv and get kicked out. Humph.

Agreed - I got an amazing score for a small beginners game and with FriendJosh and Slitherin hammering the game, the ANZACs are in 2nd place!!! 12.05 pm EST

It won't last, but what the hell - GO TEAM!!! LOL

Now this is starting to kill me (again)...I submit a small alliance victory on beginner level, to get 4940 points, and then I win my FIRST GAME ON NORMAL :CONGRAT: (YAY ME) on a medium map alliance victory and get a relatively lousy 807 points!? Sheesh!

BTW Slitherin, congrats on that nice Top 25 badge!
