How to install mods?

Now, I know this has probably been posted a billion times, but exactly how do I install mods to Sins? I've tried simply putting the mods in folders (once unzipped) and then inserting the folders into GameInfo, but that doesn't work, and I can't follow the path Sins gives to me.

Could someone give me a simple, followable way to install mods?

If it helps, the specific mods I'm installing are Real Combat Mod and NoPirateRaids/Slow Pirates (I can't decide which, as it's rumored Slow Pirates isn't working. Clarification would be nice).

Thanks!

Make sure you're set up to view hidden files and folders. (Tools - Folder Options - View - View Hidden Files and Folders)
You may have to create the Mods folder manually.

You've already updated your game to the current patch, right? If you have just enable viewing hidden files like Kitkun said and it should be in (for vista) the documents and settings/ironclad/sins of a solar empire/mods folder. Good luck dude! PM me if you still can't get it.

Ok, I enabled the Hidden Files and Folders, I'm on XP, and where exactly do I create the Mods folder? In game info?

nope, it isn't in program files. I forgot where appdata is on XP but it should be under your user profile. Look above documents and downloads and all that. It should be up there. Once you are in appdata, go to local, then Ironclad Games, then sins of a solar empire. If you've updated your game (which you need to do if you want mods to work) then thereshould be a folder in there that says mods. Dump what you have in there. I wouldn't download nopirates if i were you though, as it's likely an old mod. An update already came out that lets you turn off the pirates. try to make sure that they are recent mods or else they probably don't work.

I'm in Application Data, but there is no local folder.

Also, ya, I realized that about the pirates, but I still want the combat mod (seems like it would make the game more 'realistic,' whatever that means ((space combat isn't that realistic in this day in age))

Its usualy "Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods"

A folder with the name of the mod (So if you call it test, the mod will be called Test in the mod managment screen in the game).

In that folder all the files you changed in the same structure as the game I think (so with in folders like GameInfo and Mesh). It also needs all the OTHER files that you didn't change also or it won't run (I have no idea why).
