Dreadlords??

Im new to the game and was playing a small galaxy with the intelligences set to one below normal. I was doing great and was probably about halfway through the game, i had just gotten dreadnaughts, when a popup said that the dreadlords had risen, or something like that. ten turns later it said it again and very good ships flew around and killed me in about two turns. Is there any way to stop them or was i just unlucky???

I've heard of this. Never had it happen to me yet, thankfully. These Dreadlords or whatever they're called are a very nasty random event. As I understand it, if you hear that they are coming your best move is to destroy the colony where they're "rising" before they become active. Otherwise they'll appear, with very powerful ships, too powerful to beat with anything but the very late game weapons.

Actually, I had that happen too. I was new to the game and was finally doing well in a tiny galaxy. I received a WARNING that my people are getting a bad feeling that something bad is going to happen to my home solar syatem. Can't remember how many turns later...but I instantly lost all planets within that whole system (all my best planets) and they used their capital ships to take out every flying and orbiting object in the galaxy.

Nobody had a chance, and it thrust me back into the stone age.
