How do I Mod?

Hey I was wondering how do I mod, like make ships. What tools do I use and how do I put them into the game. I've never modded before but want to and Im intrested, so I f someone would give me the basic's that would be great!

Ok I get the download 1.04 files but I don't understand what program's I use to open the files with because when I try to open them It says file not recognized, Do I use photo shop or something, I don't want to make backgrounds but make ships and weapons and so on.

what file are you trying change exactly? all text files can be opened in notepad and image files can be changed in photoshop

I'm trying to change texture files, Texture Animation files, Particle files, and game info files.

Most graphics programs should be able to open the TGA textures; for the DDS files you'll need nVidia's DirectX format plugin (any program that supports photoshop plugins should work with it).

If you want to actually create new ships and such, you'll need a 3D modeling program that can export to XSI format.

I recommend blender then export to .obj then open it in xsi modtool and export to xsi
